New on this side of the board

I'm actually an old member, but new to this side of the forum since we recently bought an '05 TL. We purchased it for $3,500 out the door w/ 197k miles back in May. Been on here looking around, but never introduced or posted any pics so just thought I'd do it now. The car currently has 202k miles and is currently running strong.

Lol thanks! I didn't think it was a bad deal since the previous owner did almost $3k in maintenance within the past year alone from the receipts she had in the glovebox.

I changed the oil for the first time a few weeks ago and noticed that whoever changed it used a fatter/shorter oil filter compared to the smaller one I got from the auto parts store. Are there any benefits for doing this? My guess is that he/she just used the wrong one. IIRC, they are the ones for the '00 Accord V6 and exactly the one that my 1G uses.

IIRC the S2000 oil filter is compatible to ours; so that might be it.

05TL with 200k and running strong

So to all you people that keeping asking "Should I buy a TL with high mileage?" Let this thread be your inspiration, albeit still inspect and get it inspected.

You were right! I just checked the Purolator oil filter number of the S2000 and it matches the one I took off the car. Any reason why one would use that one over the specified one?

Haha and yes, don't just buy any high mileage car without having it checked out first if you don't know what you're looking at.

From the receipts that she kept...

-Brakes recently done
-Battery recently replaced
-Power steering hose recall
-New windshield wiper motor
-New passenger front window regulator
-Addressed the "tighten fuel cap" message
-New set of tires and an alignment couple months old
-Timing belt, waterpump, tensioner, cam and crank seal

Those are the main things that have been done within the past year, not counting fluid changes. There are other things she said have been done too, but just don't remember or have receipts for them. She mentioned something about fuel injection cleaning, some kind of sensor which I think is the o2 because it looked new, and the oil pan. The car has zero leaks.

the reason why I like the s2k filters is because the filter has more real estate.
it does the job 'better'.

the shorter skinnier TL filter does the job just fine, but the s2k filter just has more filter media, thus can filter better. And All Honda's have the same oil filter thread pitch, so you can use any honda filter.

Thank you, but I was referring to the TL on the "bigger engine bigger filter."
