New owner, problems and warranty question
New owner, problems and warranty question
I recently purchased a 2005 TL AT with 77,000 miles. I noticed after a few drives there seems to be a lot of noise from the transmission/axle. Some oscillating noises when tourque is applied. There is also a noticeable whine in the first couple of gears. Sounds a lot like the tall reverse gear in an import manual transmission. There seems to be a clunk when shifting into Reverse or Drive. Guess I have to check the mounts. After a long trip to Ohio this week, I noticed a lag in the transmission engaging. It engages almost immediately, but not fully. There is a second engagement about 1 to 2 seconds later. This is new.
Ive been reading these forums for the past couple of weeks and trying to gauge what my problems might be. From what I can gather, I should change the transmission fluid this weekend. I checked the quality. It is redish brown. Doesn't smell burned. Not exactly sweet smelling, but not brown.
I assume my mounts are bad causing the clunk.
My biggest concern is the oscillating warble like sound that comes and goes when you apply gas. Hard to describe and hard to find any info.
Lastly, I was wondering about the Certified Pre Owned warranty. This car was sold at the Acura dealer not CPO. However, the previous owner purchased it from the same dealer as a CPO. Since that warranty goes to 100k miles, does it transfer to me? My assumption is that it doesn't the dealer gave me a 30 day 1000 mile warranty and I have put about 1500 miles on it so far.
I'm hoping the noisy drivetrain is just something these cars suffer from and that it isn't something more serious.
Any info is really appreciated.

CPO is 7 year/100,000 mile coverage from in service date and is transferable. Check the date and it still may be under warranty, however, the transfer is designated as transferable in a private party sale.
Is the Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle® warranty transferable to a new owner?
Yes. The Certified warranty is transferable to a new owner in a sale from a private party to another private party. Simply complete the Change of Ownership Card at the back of the Customer Warranty Manual and mail it in to Acura Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
If within the warranty period I'd certainly check with Acura.
