New Owner '07 CBP TL Type-S Questions
I recently purchased a 2007 CBP Type-S A/T with 129,000 miles and so far I'm loving it.The car is clean inside and out and the previous owner had all the maintenance records. Everything looks good except for a couple things I saw...
1) I noticed he only changed the oil every 10K miles. He used synthetic every time and said the dealer told him to do 10k intervals? Engine sounds good and seems to run strong so should I be concerned about this?
2) The tranny seems to shift strong going up in gears but on downshifts I noticed it downshifts gear by gear. Is this normal? For instance, our tahoe goes like into "neutral" when you let off the gas and start to brake. When you get back on the gas it just catches whichever gear is appropriate for the speed. I like the gear by gear downshift as it reminds me of driving a manual I just want to make sure this is normal behavior for a TL.
3) When shifting with the paddle shifters there's about a 1 second delay between the time you pull the paddle and when the car shifts. Normal?
Thanks in advance!

1) Should be fine I change mine every 6-8k with full synthetic just depends when the MID tells me too. I actually do it around 10% so 10k would be fine.
Can't say much about the other 2 since I have a base and the tranny is a little different. I know on downshifts it dosen't do it one gear at a time on mine.

first off, congrats on your TL-S (: as for #1, I just go off the oil life percentage off the screen display. Just be sure to continue to use synthetic. as for #2, no idea O_O. as for #3, from what i can remember, there is a delay in gear shifts when using paddle shifters

Not really sure how to edit my first post so I'll add info here... The tranny fluid was changed a few times through out its life with the oem oil. All the maintenance was done at the same acura service center. I read about replacing the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches, I may do it for peace of mind since its not too expensive.
Thanks, I figured I should be good with the engine. I could just be paranoid about the transmission after reading all transmission problems on here haha

The MID had me change at 5k miles, I have a lot of trips that are 1.9 miles (going to work). Would the dealer have programmed the MID to know it is running synthetic? What do? Thanks.

^no. the MID does not know the difference between synthetic oil and regular conventional oil.
it how ever calculates oil life by a few parameters, which include: engine speed, engine start ups, and a few other factors found in your owners manual.
if driving purely city with lots of stop and go, dropping the hammer reaching vtec all the time; your oil life will decrease faster.
drive freeways rarely reaching into the 4k+ RPM; its common to see 6-7k intervals. maybe even 8k miles.

So since I pay a premium for synthetic since (in part) it is supposed to last longer, would it be reasonable to drive some % of miles beyond what the MID tells me? Example it tells me at 5000 - which I assume is for normal oil - so I drive an extra 25% to 6250 before changing? I supose I could do whatever I feel like, just wondering if there is any consensus with people who know more about motors than me
In short, my car ran like shit after about 10K miles, when I finally swapped it out at 15K the oil was blacker than satan's soul. I now do it when the MID tells me to, every time. Even if you drive the extra 1000 or so after the MID says, how much money are you saving? Maybe 15-20 bucks a year? Amount is negligible compared to the peace of mind from changing it on time.

Your trans is fine, the auto in the TL-S likes to downshift as if it were a manual. I really like this feature, as it helps slow the car down when coasting to a stop so you don't have to get on the brakes so early.

No performance mods really since this is my DD. Just window tint and fix wear items/preventative maintenance. I like the stock type-s wheels so no need to change anything there. Maybe down the road add a better sound system but for now shes good as is.
Theres a few spots in the paint I'd like to touch up. Do the Honda touch up pens do a decent job?
Thanks for all the help everyone! I plan to give her a good waxing this weekend and I'll try to take some pictures.

Welcome OP
Yes many recommeneds to replace 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches, I would to after changing the ATFluid since you bought it used
But I didn't notice any difference when I replaced mine, I don't know
May be they were ok, don't know how it works but that time I also did my 107 service, feeling the change of that service gave might have hidden the pressure switch difference

Well I bought a K&N oil filter, and a jug of Mobil 1 EP one time, and figured, what the hell, on the filter and the oil it says it can last up to 15K miles, so lets do just that.

I change oil by my MID and I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. Based on my driving habits I get about 3k to 3500 miles per oil change. But that would be around 5 months or more for me so I change per MID schedule.
Good choice with CBP. It is an awesome color in certain lighting.
Good luck with your new purchase and enjoy it.

I change my oil every 5,000 miles at the dealer with Agip synthetic, it's used exclusively by Ferrari in their cars so it cannot be bad stuff. At the 5,000 mile interval my MID is at 20%-25% but as we know that is based on regular oil. Could I go more miles? Probably, but I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles & replace the air filter every 15,000 & trans fluid every 20,000. Here in NJ on major highways I drive 80mph+ to stay ahead, and away from the idiotic drivers including truck drivers. I've paced truckers going 85 mph and even 90, Tandem trucks are the worst. Then there's "city" driving, stoplights, stopsigns, up to 40 mph & back down, up, down, stop, go. That would explain why I change the oil every 5,000 PLUS I add a 8oz bottle of "Tufoil".

not only CBP is changing color depend on lightning other Pearl color also does too like KBP and my MRP. I remember the day we went and check out the car my mom was like oh so the color is dark red? (the car was park in shadow of the show room but then when I drove it into the sun light she was surprise to see the color changing into almost bright red, she also like CBP that I check out earlier that day.
