Talking New here! :)

Hello!
I'm recently a TL owner of less than a week, so I thought that I'd better find an Acura forum so I'm not always bothering the Accord folks...

LOVE MY TL...
But unfortunately, I'm not so certain that I love it more than my 04 Accord Coupe 6MT ( )....that was much more fun to drive. BUT - I do love my TL and have wanted one for a while, so I'm content.

Welcome aboard. You might want to post a comparison between the two as well as your likes and dislikes. A good place to start would be the 3G Garage where general info and other pertinent info can be found. You might also want to veiw this page. Any mods planned?

Welcome KJW...

My what a nice ride you have. Soon it will be 'just right'! Yes, we become so attached to our rides, they become an appendage. When they are gone, it seems nothing feels the same.

The TL will offer you things the Accord did not. And of course, you will miss some attributes of the Accord. As you become more familiar with the car, you will find things it delivers that make you grin like a kid jacked up on Edy's. Be sure you share those insights with us as the Accord / TL lineage vs. dissimilarities is ongoing. And should you need advice, opinions or research charcteristics of the car, this is a great place.

Enjoy the new TL honeymoon...and thanks for inviting us to watch!

Thank you!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the welcome

Great idea! I will start a comparison post to find out what other folks think...

No mods and most likely won't do any; although my b/f has plans to change the air filter to a K&N - that would be about it...

But, I am glad that I found this site because I have A LOT of questions about my new ride! Thanks again and looking forward to being a member of the forum!

Ok, you say the accord coupe was more fun to drive, why? Because of the 6 speed manual? Then why not get the 6 speed manual in the TL, I did.

The wife and I wanted 4 doors and a manual transmission, that is why we got the TL, in 2005, the 4 door accord did not come with a V6 and a manual transmission, besides, the TL looks sharper.

Or was the coupe more fun to drive because it only had 2 doors?

Hi Brett!
I too would have traded up for the TL 6MT, but couldn't because of a nerve injury to my left foot - it just got to the point where I couldn't take the clutch any more...I needed an automatic.

In comparing the Accord Cp 6MT to my automatic TL.... the Accord was just more fun because of being able to shift and you could actually hear the intake - it was just quick, fast, peppy and felt like it wanted to go - go - go. Now, someone on the Accord forum who owns a TL 6MT said that his TL wants to go-go-go...whereas my automatic just feels like it's going. I am trying to take it easy on the engine during the break in period, so maybe once I pass 1,000 miles I'll play with it a little more aggressively - and even learn the sport shifter (LOL).

Sorry about your foot!
If I had to get a car with an automatic, I doubt it would be the TL.
There does not seem to be anything special about the auto TL's to me, nice cars, but not special. Its not a bad car, I just dont know if I would pick it if I had to go
with the auto trans, and I know my wife would NOT, she would rather have
an avalon or ford 500, she wants more room and comfort if she cant have the
sporty manual trans.

If I had to pick a car with an automatic, I would normaly pick a Passat or maybe another German car, if I did not know they are so unreliable, so I might look
at a used Jaguar XJ8 or S type, also not known for their reliability, and there are some new American cars coming out from Buick, Lincoln and Mercury that might be worth a look, the lacross is ok if you dont mind falling asleep at the wheel.
My wife had a Lincoln LS V8 that she loved, even though it had an automatic transmission, but it got about 14 mpg!

Maybe by the time the TL is worn out, we will be old enough for a Buick
to seem exciting....

I think once the car is broken in, and you get used to an automatic, you will like
the car more. Even with the auto transmission, its still fast and goes around
turns well.

Hi Brett!
I am definitely for now a "Honda only" kind of gal just because all of the cars that I've owned....I've never had a problem...not even the one used that I bought. I bought my 94 del Sol used w/ 60,000 miles and I drove it until it had 140,000 and I didn't have to replace one thing on that car. It drove like a champ.

So, I have always known that I'd be upgrading to Acura - I was just hoping it would have been with a manual, but oh well. I will grow to love my car (as you've mentioned) and will become attached to it as I did my others (teehee).

Before buying my Accord (while I still had the Civic coupe) my b/f and I looked at a lot of other cars such as Lexus, Audi, Volvo and the BMW - but I found quality and great standard features for the money with the Honda and now Acura. I think I'll be driving Honda's until the end of my days....I'm sold!

kj, sorry to hear about your foot. What I just read, I'm absolutely positive you would have enjoyed the 6MT. Like Brett mentioned, once you get the car broken in, I suspect you'll be a tad more aggressive and playing with the sport shifter a little more. Either way, you'll enjoy driving it more once you get used to it. There are some good posts about the 6MT vs the 5AT and which one is better. Those make for a good read. Just run a search.....

Welcome aboard, lady. Too bad about your left foot and the nerve damage. I have two TL's: mine is an '04 manual tranny and my wife's is an '05 automatic. Granted, I have a VERY strong bias in favor of manual transmissions, but her car does move out quite nicely. It's just with a manual transmission there is that one-to-one connection between the driver and the throttle.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy.
