New car milage

Hi,

Do you think 150 miles is a lot for a new car? I bought it yesterday and it is great but I have this question at the back of my head... Since I wanted the carbon color, I had to buy the one with 150 miles on it... I don't know if I did the right thing.

Thats considered a pretty high number. You know they used it for a few test drives. and Im sure as you tested it they punish the car. Mine had 40 miles when i purchased it, but take care of it and itll treat you nicely

it may have been a ride that came from another dealer (located in next-close state)
just a little silly check, but if you have nav, check it's history.
my Friend bought a TSX new with 170miles on it, checked its nav history, found that the car came from another state.

(fyi, when people order car from other dealer because your local dealer doesn't have the color/mode/option you specifically want, they bring the car by
1. flat bed truck
2. hire a driver to go and get the vehicle (cheaper) )

It depends- was your car a dealer trade that was driven from another dealer location? If yes, then it did not have a lot of miles. Was your car used by the dealership management or as a test car? If yes, then it does have a lot of miles.
Will those 150 miles hurt your car? Ask us in 12,000 miles, if you remember.
Welcome to Acurazine, and enjoy the new car!

Oh come on everybody. For gosh sakes its only 150 miles. I don't think that car could be hurt by being test driven 150 miles. It would be a different story if the car had 500 miles on it. I have taken many new cars home over night to test drive before making the purchase. Enjoy the car it will be fine.

I just bought mine on Tuesday and the one they tried to sell me had 300 miles on it and I was not going to buy it. They located one at another dealer about 20 miles away and had it driven up. The one I got had 50 miles on it and I still thought that was a little higher than I wanted.

Yes that is way to many miles, when we bought our car it was less than 20 miles. At least you got the color you really wanted.

When I picked up my '05 SSM TL w/Navi, I actually saw them take it off the delivery truck. After the vehicle prep (taking the plastic off the seats, body panels, etc.) the car had 4 miles on it.

Chances are the car you bought was a test drive vehicle.

But I wouldn't worry about it. Most dealerships have the salesman ride along with potential customers so the chance that it was abused is pretty slim.

Before we bought our TL, the Toyota Dealership where we bought our Camry let us take an Avalon home for the weekend. We were seriously considering purchasing it (until we drove the TL), and put about 120 miles on it over the weekend. Being as we were considering purchasing the vehicle, we were treating it as if it were already ours. Granted, not everyone will be as considerate, but you do have a warranty, and I doubt too much damage could be done in just 150 miles! Ours had 71 miles on it when we took delivers, but the one we intiially were considering was a demonstrator with 4200 miles on it. So, only having 71 miles seemed much better to us!

That is so not true! When I went to go test drive the 07 TL that I was going to get I abused the hell out of it. I dont know maybe the sales man was bsing me, but he said that everyone abuses the car because they want to know what the car can do before buying it. I made sure I didnt get the car I test drove just to have a little inner satisfaction and the thought that nobody has done the same to the one I got that had 21 miles on it.

+1...When I started shopping for my TL, the dealer that sat with me told me to "open it up" on a road whose speed limit was 45. I took it up to 60 without hard acceleration.. Then he proceeeded to guide back on that very same road and told me to "punch it...get a feel for her power" And i did...LOL. So yea....dealers are there to make a sale, so if you feel all gitty during a test drive, they hope that that will be enough for their sale. They dont care about their cars, LOL! Should you be worried thou....maybe not....But I would talk to the dealer about compensation maybe?? Cuz, 150 miles is kind of a lot in my opinion, and the only way i see to rack up that many miles is for people to be test driving it. We bought our TL with 2 miles on it (but i made sure to pick out the car that had all the wraping still on it, LOL ).. Keep us posted on what you decide to do!

I used to think that 21 miles was alot when i got it. There is a thread on here somewhere where everyone posted the miles on their car when they first received it. But dont feel bad because they usually say hondas are built to last a long time

Don't worry about it!

My first new car (1990 Acura Integra GS 5MT) had 150 miles when I bought it. Actually, it was the car I test drove. When I sold it to buy my '06 WDP TL last year, it had 242k miles and the original clutch still working perfectly. I had no problems whatsoever out of that car. Therefore, if I were you, I would have no concerns about about the 150 miles.

Enjoy your new ride!

I recall 19 on mine, then the end of the test drive resulted in 21.

When you guys bought your car, don' t you get a signed sheet of paper that the odometer is within 10 miles? I bought my TL years ago and they tried to make me buy the demo model which had 100 miles, I told them I wouldn't take it and they gave me one with 7 miles on it. And there is a sheet saying the odometer must be below 10 miles.

I actually signed something saying that "I know the car has 150 miles on it." I thought it wouldn't be a problem actually. I still think it is not a big deal but I saw that somebody went to Santa Cruz (about 40 miles from San Jose) with it from the nav history. Also the CD player does not work which pissed me off. I'll take it to the dealer today. I hope their service is good. At least they should appologize for this. I bought an Acura mostly for the reliability and service quality. I had very very bad experience with my old Passat. I hope Acura shows more respect to the owners.

I'll let you know what they say (or don't say).

Thanks for all the replies. Apart from this minor issue, I am very happy with the car. It is great!

My '07 CGP had 6 miles on it when I picked it up. The Odometer statement read 15, but the dealer said that it was normal since 15 is the average mileage of a new car when it's sold. They just put 15 miles on all vehicle statements unless the car has more.

Yeah I'm going to have to agree with most of the other people here. I test drove the TL on two separate occasions and had the salesman with me both times. He told me I could "punch the gas"... and let me tell you, I absolutely blasted both cars. Several WOT starts, which, according to the manual, are strictly forbidden during the break-in period.

I'd be weary about taking a "new" car with 150 miles. Chances are those are all test drive models and the entire point of a TEST drive is to TEST the car. I'm sure every person who test drove the car before you gave it tons of WOT starts. And although the official breakin period is 500 miles, if you read about these forums and on the internet, you will learn that the first 100 miles are a lot more important than the last 400. I'd make them sell me the car cheaper if it had 150 miles on it.

My car had 4 miles on it when I bought it. The salesman then drove the car to my apartment to deliver it, about 10 miles away, and it had 14 miles on it.

Don't sweat it. It's over and done with anyway.

You got the car you wanted, when you wanted it. It's under warranty, it's still new.

Mine had 6 miles on it (the other 5 were my test drive), they were ripping plastic off the steering wheel and door just so I could test drive.

My old Mazda had 170 miles on it, but it was transferred from Northern NJ to Baltimore. I too was concerned but checked the maps (sorry, mapquest didn't exist back then) and the math works out right. Also, the manufacture date of the car was literally 2-3 weeks of my taking delivery. It probably came off the truck and then driven to my dealership. That car was traded in with over 200 miles on it with no major problems (reason for trade was transmission leak, not worth dropping to investigate..time for a new one anyway after 12.5 years!).

Check to see if it was a dealer transfer. I was concerned about it being 'dogged' down the NJ turnpike but everything turned out fine.

The warranty doesnt start until the car is reported sold to honda. The miles are logged, I wouldn't worry about it.

We don't beat on our cars, and opening one up isnt a big deal. These cars are run in before they are brought to the dealer, the only thing you can really mess up is the brakes.

I don't worry about it that much actually but I want to know who drove my car. I asked the salesperson to find it out. Maybe I should ask for a carfax report as well. And they ordered a new audio system for me. It sucks to get a new car and find that something is broken... I would have hoped they would do minor jests to make me feel good like offering free oil changes or stuff like that (which does not cost much but at least to show they are sorry). Maybe they will. We'll see.

I wasn't too concerned with the mileage on my car (it was more than 5 or 6 when I picked it up). I beat on my car the first few weeks (and still occasionally do) so it didn't make a damn bit of difference to me. Don't think about it too much, not worth it.

I just purchase my car yesterday with 10 miles on it.
The salesman knew we were coming and when we came to the lot I saw him outside, watching his manager drive my car around the lot. His manager was, as my father put it, 'driving like a fool'. Driving kinda hard, then slamming on the brakes a couple times. When I confronted the salesman, he stated that his manager was merely checking to ensure the brakes were working properly. Any comments?

During the test drive those drivers probably floored it, every time, lol! They pushed it like dog. Yur car is f#@ked, man. The lower the mileage the better.... I prefer 1~ 3 mile mileage, a brand sparkling new. I got mine at 56 miles however.. I just prayed no previous drivers f'ed up my car.... Rite now I got 3060 miles. I got it Oct last year.

It is kind of after the fact but I paid 33,300 + tax/lic/doc for my 2007 Acura Nav AT5 and I got 1/9% financing. Do you think this is a reasonable price? I found out that I paid way too much for the extended warranty ($1900 vs $965 online) and I think I will cancel mine and buy it online or ask the dealer to match the online price if they don't want me to cancel. I read in another thread that I have 60 days to cancel. I also got that inside out protection plan, ding free service, and the lojack for about $500 each... I had a really really bad experience with my old passat (which I gave back as a lemon after a long struggle) so I am kind of sensitive to the feeling of getting deceived. But as subinf says, probebly it is not worth it to feel very upset. The car is a blast after all :-)

I would be more concerned if those test drive miles were on an MT than an automatic. God knows if the driver even knows how to drive an MT.

When I test drove my car it had 2 miles on it. When I drove the car off the lot to take it home it had 7 miles on it. 1 1/2 later it has 52,000 miles of hard driving and the car is just fine!

Where you with the salesman when he drove it home for ya?... If not, then how do you know that he didnt do any burnouts before he gave it to u?..

Some people say a car is broken in properly if it is driven hard during the first few miles ( cant seem to remember the link ). Enjoy the car and the rattles that will soon follow.. lol..

Mine had 21 miles when I got it.

But when I took it back two days later to get the windows tinted, they gave me a loaner...which happened to be a brand new TL. It already had 75 something miles on it. When I returned it, it had maybe about 130 cuz I had errands like crazy that day. They made me sign a disclaimer to not smoke in the vehicle because they were going to sell that one as new. So I guess 150 miles isn't too too much.

You made me freak out a bit I don't know how I can figure out if it was loaned out... I'll ask them for sure but they will probably say no...
