Never Noticed Before

Hi guys/gals, I did a search and could not find the answer to this one. At the bottom of my Navigation Screen I notice that it is shaded about 1/2 inch in width. I can see through it and it looks like a checkerboard design if I look real close. However, the shaded part dissapears whenever I roam accross the map with the cursor. I never noticed this fact until now and was wondering if it is normal. I also do not have my Nav Manual, as I left it at my folks house (brought it in to read). Thanks!

yeah, its a typical interface design idea. The shaded area tells you what road your on -- when your roaming about the map in "browse" mode, it takes the bar away to give you as much space as you need. Otherwise, it's there to provide appropriate contrast to see the street name easily while glancing (cause you're driving).

Thanks! I thought that was what it was for since I noticed the name of the street/highway at the bottom.
