My question is this......if i decided to color match the grill with paint from paintscratch.com would it look can i just paint or do i have to prep the grill? and what do i need to prep the grill. And i ask you Jnc for youre help cause youre a master with this paint on headlight color matching!

If you plan on leaving everything on and paint it then use plenty of masking tape to cover areas that you dont want colored and get overspray.

-- Mask
-- Prep using high grit sand paper.
-- Use a primer, you can get a good primer from autozone/pepboys or even your local bodyshop that has paint mixing equipment.
-- 2 coats of thin primer, let it dry for a few hours.
-- Get the paint from Paintscratch.com.
-- Paint the part, do 10 very very thin coats, let the paint work its way to a nice even layer, dont over spray.
-- Do not get the clearcoat from paintscratch.com since it doesnt give a nice gloss.
-- Pick up a can of clear coat lacqure from autozone, make sure it is for high gloss. I will get you the exact name tomorrow for the one I use.
-- Lay down 2~3 coats of clear, again very very thin until you get a nice even gloss.
-- Leave parts over night in a warm area.
-- Take the masking tape off and you are good.

Make sure you do this in a ventilated dust free area.

And is there a certain type of High grit sand paper i will need?

As for the sanding how will i know the grill is ready ready for primer?

And can you explain what a "thin" coat is? cause it very's from person to person.

And can i leave the grill on the car while i do this??

I forgot to mention, clean the surface before and after sanding with rubbing alcohol. For sanding use waterproof sandpaper, wet sand the surface.

Thin layer would be 2~4 lays of paint over the surface being painted. Thin layers will ensure drip free paint, allow ample time in between coats.
