need some AZ knowledge

Trying to remove some metal air caps that had "stuck" to the air valve of one of my tires, the tip of the air valve, where the threads are, broke off. now there is only the tiny metal "wire" to release air and the rest of the valve after the threads.

my question is, can i replace this part of the air valve without replacing the entire tire AND is this part of the TPMS?

any help on how to replace the valve or what i would need to buy would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

i hope my description was enough to give you a sense of what i was talking about.

Sounds like you just need the valve stem, but the tire will have to be removed from the wheel to replace the valve stem.> $10-$20 job (OK, probably $20 since you're in NY). The TPMS sensor should be fine.

A tire shop will have to dismount the tire in order to replace the valve.
I'm not familar enough with the TPMS to know if that'd be affected.
The metal cap was rusted on? Switching to plastic now?

thanks for the info guys. hopefully i can just replace the valve and that will be the end of it.

the metal cap wasn't rusted on. i asked a mechanic and he said that usually, metal caps "fuse" onto the valve and cause what happened. so never go with metal caps. i am going back to regular black plastic.

i have another metal cap still on, so hopefully, that can be taken off without damage. i got the other two off without incident.

Make sure to get the wheel(s) rebalanced when you do it.

just as an update. i went to a tire place and they said i need to take it to the dealer b/c it's a "special" valve.

oh well...guess i'm off to the dealer to get ripped off.
