Need a picture of TL without badging

Anyone have a photo of the TL rear with the words "Acura" and "TL" removed? I think it would look a lot better that way.

I agree it would look 100x better. It will balance out the rear nicely...

You can take them out artificially with any decent photo editing tool. With a few minutes practice, the results won't even look doctored.

jimthegreek's WDP TL is debadged....not sure if the pics are working again here or not but perhaps a search under his username would lead you to them. if not, just PM him and he'll be happy to send you a pic of the rear of his TL - debadged.

I always thought the Acura symbol was an A too, A for Acura right? I have actually been told through posts from old boards that the emblem is a precision caliper. This may or may not be correct, but interesting info I thought I would bring up if anyone else has any info on it.

As for removing the emblems, I did it on my last car to get the clean look. I prefer to keep the center one and remove the sides

my how to:
I used dental floss to remove them. Glide with teflon is very strong and wont fray. Slide it behind and work back and forth down as if cleaning your teeth, bit in the car
Hey, it worked for me.
After removal use some bug/tar remover or even a small amount of paint thinner and go over the area very quick to get rid of the excess glue and crap. Be careful adn use common sense when doing this, I am not liable
You can also use a blow dryer to heat the area and rub the glue out with your finger
Wait, u'r not done yet
Wash the area with dawn or a grease cutter and dry completely. Then wax the are qucikly, only a small area so it is fast. This will protect that area.
VOILA good as new as if they were never there

Almost perfect photo job, forgot to remove reflection of the logo under the spoiler!

just kidding, I'm picking on you...
good job.

I left the logo only, and I have some doubts about putting the letters back (I like the fat TL Letters) plus people think I'm driving an Audi or something...else. (they don't know)

Usually now in the rear from what cars I have experience with. I don't know about the TL, but the dental floss removal method will let you know if there are tabs drilled in the trunk

That's not a reflection. The factory wing spoiler has an engraved Acura emblem on the underside. If you knew this already and were just messin', please disregard my comment.

how to debadge

10 minutes max.

heat it up with a hairdryer.
Use floss to cut through the glue behind the stick on.
Wash off with a small rag using dish washing liquid for any glue residue.

Looks great and give more mystique!

You still haven't told us how you removed the A. Was it just stuck on? Mine feels so solid I am afraid there is a bolt going through the deck lid. If there is, then I won't take it off, but if it is just stuck on that will be easy.

Thank you. It will be left on. I guess Acura wanted us to leave something so people will know it is an Acura.

You are absolutely correct that the acura symbol is a precision caliper although it looks like an A.

And like most honda vehicles I am sure you will find there are 2 pegs on the symbol that slides into 2 holes with plugs that is drilled into the trunk lid. Also, Acura puts fairly limited badging and I question why anyone would want to remove it.

Weird, I always thought that was the Star-Trek logo.

The H emblem stands for Honda...I imagine the A emblem stands for Acura. Call it a hunch.

As for removing emblems...the dental floss method is the best that I have used. I followed it up by soaking the stuff with Goo Gone with a paper towel underneath so it doesn't drip, then the stuff just comes right off...not sure I would use paint thinner though!

Pictures are down. Otherwise, you should see them over this two threads. It's quite easy to remove them.

These photos are posted on my photo gallery, but this functionality seems to be down for too long a period of time. I will try clipping it to this reply.

I had the dealership do the de-badging at no additional charge.

Most cars look better with the badges removed. I think that they are added after the car is designed, so they always look like "add-ons".

I feel that the Acura "A" is still needed on the rear as a focal point, however.

Wish there weren't any holes behind the Acura "A" badging...then the car would look so clean!

Hey automophile - nice TL, but how'd you get it to go back in time??? (The date-stamp in the pic says 10.2.1999.) I guess that really is a Star Trek logo! :p

Thank you very much for the picture. I was undecided about removing the badges on my WDP, but seeing your picture made my decision easy. They are now gone and it is beautiful.

Thanks again

Honda accessories has installation instructions for their gold emblem kit here http://www.handa-accessories.com/tl/08F20.pdf so you can see how the Acura logo is installed. It also shows how to remove the grill, if anyone needs to do that.

There is no bolt, but there are 2 studs in the emblem which go into holes in the deck lid, so you would definitely have holes if you removed the emblem, but it can be removed from the outside
without removing the inner deck lid lining.

I removed the ACURA and TL emblems with dental tape (a little stronger than floss). They came off easily and I just rubbed the little bit of remaining adhesive off with my fingers. Didn't use any solvent, paint remover, etc. Then waxed the deck lid and it looks great.

Thanks for the great diagrams on how to remove the badging. To me the White TL is gorgeous without the rear labeling (advertising to be accurate). The labeling spoils the entire look of the rear of the car, making it look tacky. The letters TL are meaningless, just so much Madison Avenue fluff.

deandorsey,

No goo, no mint flavored dental floss, no paint thinner? Just blow drier for 5 min? Please confirm so I can try. I didn't think debadging is necessary, but don't care for the wax build up as they are hard to clean. Thanks.

I removed the "ACURA" and "TL" badges this past weekend. Very easy. Just blow-dry for a few minutes (long enough to melt the glue) and slide the floss underneath and wiggle. I even used cheap mint-flavored floss that broke a few times, but still got it. Then just wipe off the glue residue with a wet rag. Looks good.

Seriously, if my wife caught me in the garage with a hair dryer, removing the name badges off the cars, she would be calling the guys who bring out the white coat with the long sleeves.

I suppose people don't ask you what happened to the badges??: "Guess what, someone stole the name-things off your new car" and then you say "Nah, I took them off because it looks better without" and then they say " ".

I admit from looking at these pictures that the car looks nicer without the badges (although removing the Acura A would IMHO make the car look too generic) but they were put there for a reason and are expected. I know that whole thing about "do what you want to do, it's your car" but this could also be taken as your saying that you are not proud of what you drive.

We should be happy that the badge keeps getting smaller from Vigor-->to 3.2 TL--> to now just ...TL. And I suppose they could leave off the word "ACURA" since the A means the same thing and is therefore redundant, but it's still better than some makers who think that people enjoy advertising whats under the hood (Kompressor 4MATIC MPFI BLAH BLAH BLAH). You gotta do what you gotta do but unless Acura starts including a pack of floss in the trunk I'll be keeping my badges. My .02

nope just a hair dryer--now that i think about it i did wash the car right before i did this, so that might have had an effect--but they just peeled of -the adhesive tape stayed on the letters--so i stuck them on my wall! :-)
