I have headrests and was considering switching to the flip down. This is probably better suited under the audio/electronics thread though

I never liked installing a flip down in a car with a sun roof. You have nothing to mount to unless you drop the whole headliner and put some ABS reinforcement or wood... Which is still not ideal due to the sunroof going into the roof.

+1 Even if you did support it with wood, it still isn't that secure. Back when I used to work at circuit city we weren't allowed to instal flip down tv's in vehicles that had a sunroof.

That had to be a house rule. Both Circuit City's I worked at we did flip downs in vehicles with sunroofs. We also cut our own headrests to do headrest monitors.

Support really won't be much of an issue as long as your not installing a 20"+ screen. Clearance for the sunroof panel so it doesn't hit your mounting screws and wires going up into the headliner might be your bigger issue.

The only times we even considered was when they had a big SUV for the mounting screws to clear the sunroof panel like you said. I actually really miss working there. It was a pretty cool job considering I was still in High school when I started working there.

Wouldn't it block the rearview mirror when flipped down?

I just took it out this past weekend... it was in the car when I bought it and I dont want it, its for sale if youre interested. It was mounted to the headliner with two screws and a mounting bracket, it cleared the sunroof fine. It was pretty sturdy too, Ill give you a good deal if you trade headliners with me too

its a 9.5", motorized flip down screen. They sell for $200 on amazon, I think they were like $400 new at best buy, but that was a few years back. There is 2 big holes in my headliner for the harnesses, and a few small ones for the screws. Im gonna either find a headliner in a junkyard or find some matching gray plugs. Maybe even have it re-covered.

You can have it for $150 shipped if you want it

i have alpine screens in my stock type-s headrests.

not to turn this into a opinion debate but a flip down just seems so impractical and out of place unless it's an suv...
what cars with the headrest monitors here on azine did you look at?
