^ definitely not worth it then.. well.. going over 100 mph in < 65 mph zone is hardly ever worth it if at all. I would have saved my gas. On a side note, the 2.3L Mazda 3 is a lot of bang for you buck though.. moreso the MS3. It's also pretty spacious. The 2G M3 is fugly.. I'm sure they think our 4G TL is fugly as well.. lol.

Couple of months ago I raced a MS3 (08 or 09 mybe) from a light. We were dead even to 60, then I started edging out head. I had excessive wheel spin till 50. I think they're pretty quick, but an AT TL with mods should hang. I'm 6MT and had little to no traction. My

I have a MS3, if he is a bad driver you will beat him. Otherwise he will most likely walk you in both scenarios. I would be SHOCKED if he didn't walk on you from a roll. From a stop my car doesn't feel all that fast (not slow by any means) but from a roll it really hauls ass.

Honestly, I think Mazda should have incorporated the MS6's AWD system into the MS3....although I imagine it'd add a grand or two to the sticker.

anyway, why so worried about racing him anyway? just kick his ass and take his girl...
i bought my Tl becuase it was luxorious as fuck for the price. Just laught at his crappy interior and tell him you dont want to mess up your nice car hot rodding it around like a jack ass. =]
That or tell him you DO want to race him, set it up at a good location and call ahead and tell the cops there is a guy speeding in a MS3...when he gets pulled over call him on your hands free and laugh your ass off as you pull ahead of him...

there is one that drives the same way to work as I do everyday with a fart can exhaust. I've raced him on several occasions, and he will pretty much sit on my rear door all the way to 100.
I have a CAI, 70 lbs of weight reduction, and UR pulley, and stage 3 exhaust (doesn't do much for performance but sounds nice).
Just race him... this thread sounds like its all talk...

Yep, the ms3 has speed limiter at 155. With the limiter removed it'll go past 160 easy. Not only does it go high speed but has incredible pull all the way to the top speed. it's in the bmw 135i class in terms of acceleration from roll to 155.

It's just one of those things; I hate this guy. Talks trash all the time. Came from a crappy little RX-8, and now drives around a 09 (or older) Mazdaspeed 3. Sure this thing puts out 263 horses and 280 lbs of torque, but I think I have a chance. Plus, he isn't the best driver. I test drove the NEW 2010 MS3, wasn't impressed. Thought it was slower than the TL. MY TL, fully bolted on, minus P2R stuff. The race hasn't happened yet, but it will...

He's likely referring to the former...the latter should be in lockstep with a TL 6MT, with the 1G MS3 supposedly being a little slower than the new 2G version.

nope, it's FWD. The first two gears on the MS3 has torque reduction to minimize torque-steer. Once you put the MS3 in 3rd all hell break lose. It will pull like no other. You probably beat the driver as there are not many great ms3 drivers out there.

Not to be a dick but I'm not convinced until I see it or it happens to me. Maybe, just maybe, it will pull slightly on the 6MT TL but I don't see it happening with the Type-S 6MT.
I would love to find a Mazdaspeed 3 in Charlotte and try this

There are 10 sec cars around here but most of them are older guys (40+, muscle car crowd) who aren't into running teenagers with modded 4 bangers. Plus he know's better to even go up to them

That's not good though. You don't want added weight and power loss in the drivetrain and will slow the car down at high speed acceleration. Mazdaspeed3 has a character, roll speed demon. It's designed just for that, not a dig racer like Subaru WRX STi or EvoX or IS350 or BMW 335Xi. Mazda did real good job by keeping it front wheel drive for minimal power loss in the drivetrain. It's got the shortest wheelbase, pretty light (upper 3100's lbs), and max torque starting at 3000 rpm. I feel the awesome pull even at 1500 rpm.

My friend used to have the Mazda 3, we used to race a few times but not up to high speeds. We raced from a stop and when he got perfect shifts he would beat me or be pretty much dead even with me. I have some vids on youtube, but in those vids he always let off way too soon because his clutch was slipping. His mazda had all possible mods done, i think.
