Need help Quick! Passport Hardwire ?s

I'm trying to hardwire my Passprt 8500 and decided to lose the remote mute button so I cut the plug off and was going to direct wire it using an Add A Circuit from Autozone. My problem is, this isn't a typical wire with a positive and negative, this cord has 4 wires (Red, Black, Yellow, and Green) and I do not know what is what. I assume Red is Positive and Black is Ground, but what are the Yellow and Green ones??? My car is apart currently and I can't go anywhere until I get an answer. What wires do I provide current and which need ground? Thanks for looking!

The passport 8500 can be connected to other components. My guess is those other wires are for that connection try working the detecto with the red and black reconnecting them to the lighter adapter. If it works leave the other 2 wires capped. Iif it doesnt tie the 2 wires (thus completing the circuit) and see what happens. Better yet go to the website and order the remote installation kit which has everything you need for the install already. I bought it but after looking under the panel for a suitable connection I decided against it. Way too many wires and the fuse box is vwery hard to tap since it is partially hidden behind a fixed panel. My sincere recommendation is to cut your losses put everything back together and take it to one of the dealers rocommended by escort for installation. Many reputable car dealers do!!!

Somebody has done this exact installation before. I remember hearing him say he used his own telephone cord and spliced his own connections. I connected the red to the add a cicuit and ground the black and tested both with a circuit light, however it did not supply power to the detector. I do not want to pay anyone to do such an easy installation. This is the 4th vehicle I've hardwired this detector in, just the first without using the mute button.

I hardwired my Passport 7500.. What I did was tap the red wire to the wipers fuse on the driver side fuses.. Then I grounded the other 3 wires. Works like a charm and it comes on when I turn the key in the ignition... I did it to my 03 TL-S...

I feel super retarded. I bought the hardwire kit, but can't figure out for the life of me how to wire it.

Could you perhaps take a picture of where this is all happening? Which wires? Where?

Perhaps a step-by-step? Thanks!

I'm guessing you don't know where to plug in the red wire (+) in correct? You need to cut that plastic part off..strip the wire so only the bare metal wire is showing. From there, go on about hardwiring it.

Good lord, i'm not THAT retarded. HAHAHAHAHAH

I just don't know where to go about finding a wire/source to tap into for the 12+ (red wire). Never done this before and hesitant about screwing around with the electrical components in such a high-tech car.

Oh sorry...hehehe. Tap it into one of your fuses located in the interior fuse box.

I'm trying to hardwire my Passprt 8500 and decided to lose the remote mute button so I cut the plug off and was going to direct wire it using an Add A Circuit from Autozone.
Why did you cut the mute button off? I have the 8500 and am installing it this wknd and was going to pick up the add a circuit from autozone today. I had this detector installed originally in my subaru and the one wire that came off the mute button had one of those little plastic do-hickeys on the end where you clamp it down on a hot wire and that provides the power. Now for the TL, I was planning on cutting off that little plastic thing and splicing into the add a circuit. Is this the wire you are referring to that has the 4 colored wires or is it the telephone wire part? Anyways, according to another poster (nickpooore) here who installed a V1, you can tap the power suppply from the driver side fuse box with the add a circuit. Here is the thread : http://acura-tl.com/forums/showthrea...=valentine+one

As far as the mute button goes, i was planning on mounting it through the extra button hole next to the VSA button.

I'm not too familiar w/the 04 TL's but I still do believe they should have 2 fuse boxes (One located under the hood and another located in the interior of your car.) The fuse box should be located near the bottom half of the drivers side. Take off the covering...choose a "Hot" fuse meaning the fuse only works when the key is in the ignition and turned to II. I chose fuse 30A (Windshield wipers) in my '03 TL-S to hardwire my V1. Check your manual to see which fuse is your windshield wipers...then take a pair of fuse removers (a pair should be located in the fuse box under the hood) and pull that fuse out.

Now take the red (+) and insert it either into the left or right side of the fuse. Make sure you're not inserting the (+) wire into the center of the fuse and also, make sure there are no wires sticking out of the fuse..which could cause a damage to your car. After inserting the (+) w/the fuse...push the fuse back in w/the red (+) wire in either of the left or right slot.

Now put your key in the ignition, and turn it to II. Your Escort should have power to it. Hope this helped.
