Question Need help on making final decision on exterior/interior combo color

My #1 choice is Nighthawk Black Pear/Quart

My #2 choice is Satin Silver Metallic/Ebony

Checking the exterior/interior poll, I found Anthracite/Quart is best!

I am now having a HARD time thinking which of those 3 combo looks best on TL?

I plan to have a full body kit + wing spoiler + body side modling for my TL.

Could anyone with one of these 3 exterior colors give me some advices, pro/con of each choice?

Many thanks...

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

It is a matter of taste, but that is the combo that I chose and it looks great, especially with 20% tinting

I went through the same "tough" decision when I bought mine.. on the color scheme... and I went with the popular Anthracite/Ebony....

Here was my reasoning and here is what I found after having it:

Exterior - Silver too common... Black showed dirt and scrates too easily... Forget Red Green or Gold not my taste... Anthrarcite looked SO NICE sitting on the lot with the sun shining on it (and I didnt originally consider that color even)

Interior - had grey interior past 2 cars so didn't want Quartz... and people said lighter colors are harder to keep clean inside...

After having the car for a few months..

Exterior - Love it... Doesnt get THAT dirty even in winter... can not see scrates easy... easy to maintain.. different than alot of other cars (although it seems grey/Anthracite seems to be "the next silver"

Interior - Ebony Interior is so easy to clean besides getting rid of some dust you just dont have to worry about it... Its a VERY good low maintenance choice and makes the cab look very hi tech.

However if you want luxury look over Hi Tech go with Black/Camel or Black/Parchment.... I originally was thinking of a luxury looking car, but decided on one more youthful and less "trying to be a Lexus" like...

Just an opinion on color.. everyone has theirs so no choice is right or wrong!

Mike

Hello--

I went through the same dilemma and ended up ordering a silver/ebony. It comes in two weeks.

A friend of mine got a black/parchment, it's nice, but not as sporty. I also choose the silver because it is easy to keep clean.

I think there are two colors that are "un-sung": Anthracite/camel (totally different) and the pearl white with Quartz. The while is sharp.

What I decided was that -- for the most part -- all the colors are great; you'll see one that will just speak to you.

I have the anthracite/quartz, and I do think it is stunning -- when I saw this combo in person, I knew it was for me. But, I think your choice of exterior color greatly affects what color interior you choose. I love the quartz in my anthracite, but if I went with NBP, I would have chosen parchment, while with SSM, I would have chosen ebony. It's all about how the interior/exterior colors complement one another. If I had it to do all over again, I'd end up pulling my hair out over anthracite/quartz, red/ebony, and black/parchment.

You should just go to the lot a few times and see which color clicks with you the most. The only practical considerations I can see (for exterior) is that the NBP is very hard to keep clean, the anthracite is easier but not easy, and the SSM is very forgiving to dirt/salt/etc.

Just go with your gut...

If/when I buy the TL, it will be down to two color combos:

black/ebony
red/ebony

Why? Because I want to buy an aggressive sports sedan with lux features. If I wanted to buy a lux sedan with aggressive characteristics, I would choose other colors.

Here's the breakdown on why:

1. Silver makes the car look very long to me. SSM makes it look long like the old TL somehow. Somehow evokes the luxury side of the car more than the sport side.

2. Black makes the car look very stout and muscular. Makes the TL look like a sports sedan vs. a touring sedan.

3. Anthacite looks great in the sun and like a dreary grey in overcast or when not clean. Doesn't portray sport or lux specifically.

4. Red looks very, very sharp, but has some contrast/color match issues with the taillights. Also, the red could be a tad deeper.

5. Blue looks very sharp as well. It gives the sedan a more luxury/touring feel than sporty feel. It has pretty big flakes in direct sun light. This could be a good or bad thing, depending if you like that sort of thing.

6. Desert Mist makes the car look like an old person's car. Don't mistake yourself, it's tan. A very nice tan, but tan nonetheless.

7. Green is surprisingly sharp! I'd say 80% black and 20% green, so it's really really dark. Without direct sunlight or streetlight, it could pass for black. Surprise when a light shines on it... a super deep, rich green. Not as sporty as black, but more sporty than blue, and very sophisticated. Only problem: doesn't come with ebony interior option!

8. The car does look good in white if you like white cars. I find that, like the silver, the white makes the car look big and long. If you are buying a family sedan and are looking at the TL as a sporty way to get there, white will fulfill that image promise. Also, you'll likely get less tickets than someon in the black or red. I have a small problem with how the taillights integrate stylistically with the white paint.

Interior:

1. Ebony: Well, I'm an ebony guy, so that's my bias. It gives the interior an understated techelegance (tech elegance) that looks vey well integrated and stylish. Ebony goes on smooth...

2. Quartz: Nice because the seats aren't black and won't get as hot in the summer. If you like the two-tone effect of an interior, but don't like tan colors, then this is the color for you. I find the 2-tone interiors in the TL to be very striking, but also a bit busy in the door area.

3. Parchment: Now that there's camel, I ask why bother? OK, that's a bit harsh. Arguably, the parchment matches the black better than the camel. If you find the camel too yellow, the parchment is less colorful.

4. Camel: Finally a good tan to match the blue and green colors. Looks more rich than all other colors.

Both Camel and Parchment provide a more open and airy feel to the cabin. This evokes lux over sport, no doubt. It also provides that contrasty two-tone effect, and adds interesting stylistic adventures in the door design.

The very interesting thing about the color options both inside and out is that they seem to allow the buyer to 'choose' which car they want: the luxury tourer or the aggressive sports sedan.

You can even choose to send a message to your neighbors than you bought a sports sedan but send a mesage to yourself that you drive a lux cruiser (black/parchment). Or opposite.

In conclusion, I don't think it's about what color combo you want, I think it's about what kind of car you think the TL is to you. Once you know that, then the colors just about pick themselves.

Jon

I too am having the same tough choices to make. I really like the Abyss Blue; however, I don't really like either one of the 2 interior choices. Too bad they did not offer Ebony with ABP here in the US. I like the Anthracite as well, but was not sure how the color would look with optional 18" Acura rims. Does anyone have pictures of an Anthracite w/ the 18" rims? I have seen a couple of pixs of a Anthracite A-spec on this site, but the lighting did not give me a good idea of an overall view from all angles.

Was a the dealer yesterday for a part replcement, and they just got several TL's in. For the first time I saw every single color of interior and exterior all at one time. While I was waiting for the car to be fixed, I looked at all the cars in bright sun to compare colors. I - like princed - love my Anthracite/ Quartz and think the combo is striking and very German. (Both my Audis were a similar color.) I would not change it.
The only two exteriors that I think would have also been very good are the red and black. I saw both with Ebony and they were really sweet. I agree with Jon D on his exterior choices, and coments on quartz, but I don't care for the high contrast of the Parchement or Camel.
my 2 cents.

I think I'm going with Green/Camel. I like the (admittedly faux) wood trim look on the Camel/Parch rather than the carbon fiber look of the Black/Gray interier.

I don't like the Gray colors on cars (no matter what the fancy names are, they just look Gray to me). My only reservation with the Green was that it might be too light, so thanks JonD for your note about it. At one point, my dealer said that Red(w/Nav) were really hard to get, 3 month lead time, so I'm a bit concerned that Green would be hard to get as well if Acura produces more Gray and Black cars.

I like Black exterior and Parchment Interior. Love it!

But I am not one to spend much time waxing detailing my car. Plus I have to park it in a carport at night.

How practical is this?

How often will I need to have this car washed?

My last car was black and it looked like it needed to be washed every time I took it out and the roads were anything but perfectly dry. Looks great when clean but way too much work for me so it was my first and last black car.

i went w/ silver and ebony
black looks great when clean, but it shows everything. my last car was black and i refused to get another one.
silver hides a lot.
the anthracite was my 2nd choice, i decided silver b/c looks a little sportier and the anthracite will show a lot of dirt. but still a cool color if you want to deal with the upkeep.

i also thought the ebony interior looked richer than the grey.

I went with the Anthracite/Ebony.

I considered the Anthracite/Camel for a little while (I liked the contrast between the black dash and the lighter carpet, etc) but then decided the interior would be wayyyy too difficult to maintain.

I've always wanted a gunmetal silver car, so Anthracite was a no-brainer. However, the interior took a little figuring out, but after seeing the ebony (and realizing it's more of a charcoal rather than a deep black) I fell in love with it.

First, I would like to thank you everyone for spending your time giving advices in great details.

I went to Tustin Acura today and found they have only one Anthracite/Quart. The car just came in so the saleman took me to the service area where they park the car. Under the sun light, the grey color looks a lot brighter. The sun light only shines half of the car because the car is parked close to the wall I could not see the whole light effect . I have a feeling of seeing different color effect at different angle. Is this correct or just my feeling? The saleman confirmed that Anthracite is the most demanded color on TL 2004. He told me it would be a bit brighter once he get the car clean. I will coming back for another look in the next few days. I have not seen the Anthracite/Ebony interior. I admit that the Anthracite is great sunny days but dull in cloudy days

I refer a sporty looking car with a bit of luxury. I dont want two much wood interior - A little bit is fine but not whole lots of wood.

Silver color is nice but I dont like much the back with the rear under spoiler body (the grey part of the rear body spoiler significantly reduces the nice looking of the back). The car is a bit longer too...

For interior color, will parchment color look bad after a year or two?

Which exterior color makes the car look great with body kit and wings spoiler? I have not seen any other color with complete body kit and wings except black.

The black looks shinny with Zaino. I am wonder how the Anthracite looks with Zaino? If anyone has Anthracite pic with Zaino?

I am doing long commute to work around 100 miles each day - Mostly sunny days (in Southern California). How often do I need to clean up the car if it is silver, black, anthracite? I dont have garage. Will the car cover help? How good the Zaino holds back the dusk on dark on black and how long it needs to rewax?

For the exterior: I have narrow down to black, silver, anthracite ... but picking one of these three are really tough choices for me.

For interior: I have never use leather seat so I dont know which is good. Ebony seems to keep the car clean and also looks great. Quart is new color and looks very nice. Parchment is still under consideration because it looks cracky in my friend acura 2001.

I appreciate further advices and pro/con on color choices.

We looked at nearly every combination at three dealers and decided on anthracite/ebony. Very pleased.

I spent 45 mins at the dealer going back and forth looking at Black/Ebony, Anthracite/Quartz and Black Quartz. Ultimately I wound up with the Black / Quartz because although I love the Anthracite, I felt (and was told) is was going to be the #1 exterior color. I wanted something that looked good but different. Once I decided on the Black, I opted for the Quartz because I didn't want the Black/Black combo.

My $.02

I'm disapointed with the DGP (Deep Green Pearl). I was hoping it was a really deep, rich green, but it looks very gray-green to me.

For me... no question...

Nighthawk Black...will wash every weekend.. there is no other color that looks this good when washed and Zaino'd...

originally wanted Ebony interior, couldn't find it and would have to wait, but located parchment, from the moment I sat in it... it was perfect, lots of class and complete sport lux!

Windows tinted 35% and 95mph down I75... Bad Ass!

How often do you have to Zaino the black TL? It sounds like you do everything by hand?

Here some pics of the anthracite post-Zaino. It doesn't have the amazing mirror effect most black cars do, but it still looked damn nice.

On a sad note, I washed my car today and got it back to looking nice, then about 20 minutes of snow flurries arrived and wet the roads that my car is now completely covered in salt again after driving only 25-30 miles tonight. I hate the northeast...

Your Anthracite color looks amazing! I have not seen one Anthracite with Ebony so I dont know how good it is.

By the way, anyone know if the A-SPEC car in LA show is Anthracite color or unknown new color. Thanks.

Anthracite/ebony is the conservative, subdued, power combo. Just sits there and chants "bite me."
