Need help on 18" wheels option

My car has arrived and I have yet to negotiate a deal on the 18" wheels option. The price of the car includes wheels and tires already, of course. So, what kind of deal have others received on this accessory? What I mean is, did you get a credit for 17" wheels/tires or not? If so, how much? Or, has anyone simply kept both the 17" and 18" wheels/tires. I am considering that as well. That way I will have both summer and winter tires and it will be a long time before I have to buy some more expensive tires. I have sent the question via email to the dealer and have not received a response yet. So, any advice or details of your deal would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

My deal had special circumstances relating to a transmission replacement, so take this with a grain of salt.

I was given a choice of a set of 17s with the HPTs or $500 off of cost for the 18s with Yokos.

From that you could conclude that the value placed on the 17s with HPTs was $500. That is less than the retail for the tires themselves, and dealer cost for the 17s with tires is around $1000.

I've been offered the wheels at $1265 (dealer cost, so I am told) and the yokohama tires mounted for $840 with no credit for the 17" wheels/tires. But, they don't have the wheels in stock. They will have to be ordered. My next move may be to order the wheels at a later time for $1265 and just pick them up, take them home and get tires later when spring comes. That way I could keep the 17" wheels and all season tires for the winter. What do you all think? Will they go for that? I hope they will. I really want those wheels. They are just so damned expensive without a credit for 17" wheels.

To whom it may concern - I am getting a non-navi TL for $1200 off MSRP and whatever accessories I want at cost. No trade in vehicle.

It is my understanding that cost for the 18s with the Yokos is $1428. The tires are about $480 of that, if not more.

$840 is not a good deal for the tires. You can get them from www.tirerack.com for less, even after you add shipping and mounting. Probably from others, like forum sponsor www.discounttiredirect.com as well. I can't remember if they are 245s or 235s, but 245s are $167 each and 235s are $141 at TR.

The '04 17" TL rims and tires on eBay

Dealer does not want your old wheels and therefore does not offer any "creidt". However, there is a third-party market for these things on eBay. A guy jhust sold his new set (under 300 Miles) for $1025. If you can get yours from the dealer for $2K, then your final cost is closer to $1K for the 18's. Pretty good actually...

Thanks for the info, very informative, but my wheels and tires are not "old". They are brand spanking new as I am picking up the car tomorrow. Others have posted that they received a "credit" at the time of purchase. That is what I was wanting to know. The amount of credit that is fair. Unfortunately no one responded and my deal is now done. I am satisfied.

BTW - Dealer agreed to order the wheels for me at $1265 after the purchase of car. That way I can get whatever rubber I want and still have the 17" stock wheels/tires for the upcoming winter as well as next winter. I just need choose some 18" tires now and there is no hurry to do that since winter is upon us. I will order the wheels at a later date or find something else on line.

Thanks to all that responded.

You can order the wheels from Tim at Ray Laks Acura (www.hond**********.com) for $1180.40 for the set of 4. Free shipping and only a $3.95 service charge. I've purchased accessories for both our 04TL and TSX. Great service. and great prices.
