NBP Paint

Has anyone else noticed that the NBP looks a little blueish in the light, I was noticing hints of dark blue the other day---is it a bad paint job?? Should I go to the dealer??

Lol

Did you look at NBP before you purchased your vehicle? It is SUPPOSED to have blue metallic flecks in it that give the car the dark blue look in sunlight and some light. This is one of the main reasons I got this color as it is almost like having a dark blue and a black car.

That's where the name comes in - Nighthawk Black - I figured. At night sky's not completely black - there's some blue.

actually you're half right...

Nighthawk Black PEARL....

it is a pearl paint, black base color with a blue pearl coating...
as WDP, aka White Diamond Pearl, is white base color with a shiny pearl effect (like a diamond)

Actually, pearl refers to smaller mica chips used in the paint to give it more depth. It has nothing to do with pearls and the paint process is the same as a regular metallic.

I have a '99 Accord that's Flamenco Black Pearl...a true black as far as I can tell. Circa MY2000-2001, Honda switched to Nighthawk Black Pearl that has the hint of blue you're noticing.

Yep noticed the same thing too. Almost freaked me out when I took my damaged bumper in to have it fixed and the paperwork said "Blue Pearl". Although visual inspection showed consistent color with the rest of the body, I just had to check that the right paint was used. They state that the manufacturer paint color code located inside the driver door sill is what they go by. For NBP, I think it's "B92P". :o

WOW - haha i was just noticed the same thing over the weekend. I waxed the car on sat and i see it sat night in the light and its blueish! i was freaking out!!! I thought that maybe the wax had done something to the paint. But it looks great today, nice and black. I think it is the lighting and the pearl part of the color. Whatever it is, it really adds a little extra spark to an already awesome color.
