Navigation or No NavigatioN?

I am having a very big dillemma. I have made this account because I have wanted an acura Tl for the longest time, and so it comes that I love the 2004-2006 because those years seem to be the only years that I can afford. Well I am very picky since I am working hard to pay for these vehicle out of my own pocket and I really want a Black on Black Acura TL WITH NAVIGATION and it seems like its very hard for me to find one in my area. However, I have found an 04 TL with only 47,800 miles on it, but it DOES NOT have a navigation system. and because I really need a vehicle I am very undecisive of whether I should just get this car , or keep on waiting for one with a Navi .. which means the miles on that vehicle would probably be higher and I'd have to wait longer. I've been looking for this vehicle for about 8 months now because my old car broke down on me and I am very desperate of getting a new car. Please help me decide.. do you think it is worth it to get one with navi or just get this one and purchase a portable one for my dashboard. Tell me all the features that the navi has! Thank you very much! I appreciate the help!

The Navi option incorporates voice controls for climate control and audio system as well as the navigation system.

Get the Navi if you can-- no one regrets getting the Navi, but many of the non-Navi owners regret not getting the Navi, based on several threads in the 3G TL forum.

Wait until the Navigation comes along..If it were another car it wouldn't matter as much but the system in the TL is very sophisticated.

I'm a car snob so I have to have nav in my car. Cars w/o nav are for the serfs...

I'm in the same boat as the OP.

I've been thinking, are there any features that the Navi has that the Non-Navi have.

I thought about getting an after market Navi but I don't know if it will interfere with anything.

My TL has no-navi and I regret not waiting to get one with navi.

Is it necessary to have? Of course not. Is it helpful? Sometimes. Does it look cool? Hell yea

Though I love my 09 MDX base (and after having an 07 Accord V6 w/Navi), I am starting to regret not going for the Tech package.....which is what appears that 99% of MDX owners opted for.

As we're in the market for a second car (i.e.: 1G G35 or 3G TL), we're really only interested in models with OEM Navi.

I say get the TL now and do a navi swap. Almost everyone who has tried has pulled it off, and I'm not sure, but there might be a DIY on the site. I don't have navi, but that is because I know my area very well, and my TL doesn't travel outside that area. Also I didn't really find the luxuries that come with navi useful to me...

Why on earth would you want to go through all that hassle? TL's with nav are a dime a dozen...

Maybe open up your color combo selection a bit? That way you'll have more luck finding a TL with navi

Idk. It just seems like the TL he is offered is pretty good, and he says he needs a car now. Of course it makes more sense to get one with navi, but if you can't wait, then he should get this one and do a swap. So OP, if you can wait, get navi...if you can't work with what you got...

I was dead set on getting a navi, but I settled for a 06 RRP non navi that was about $3000 less than the one with navi. The 06 models non navi screen lights up blue unlike the 04-05...I think, and goes nice with my blue LED lights. That'll have to do until I can afford the conversion later on. So the simple answer is if you can wait, get one with the Navi, but if you can't, get the non navi and you can add it later on and it'll be like you are getting a new car once it's installed.

Get the navi, almost 4 years later and it has come in handy more times than I could remember. Plus it adds to the appeal of the interior.

I was in your position when I was looking to buy a TL about a month ago. I was going to buy a TL without Navi, but then I ended up buying a car with Navi because I got a really good deal on it. The thing is, I don't actually use the Navi function, but let me tell you, it makes the interior look 10x better. The screen is just so awesome to have. Plus with all the voice controls, you can't go wrong.

If you're debating this much before making a purchase, you'll surely be wondering if you should have gotten the navi after making a non-navi purchase. Keep looking and you'll find a navi TL that you like.

When i was in the market for this car I had no intrest in navi but when I took my test drive I got a navi model and I was HOOKED!

+54568545615 on the interior looking more complete with the navi screen, HOWEVER mentioned about you can always convert to navi for as a few members have done converted to the 07+ navi with Navtraffic

I would like to test the waters on how many would do the non navi to navi on Gen3 TL's to try to get a group discount. It would be on A: parts only, B: parts and install, C: Install only. So if you have interest add your name and which you have interest in.

A 3g without a nav is like having a computer without internet.

I use it for navigation, i use it as a straight up map to see where i currently am.

I've modded it to have a wallpaper of my choice on startup. Installed a reverse camera which displays on the screen. Theres a trip computer where i view my mpg in real time and view all the gps satellites that are currently being tracked. It's easy to glance down and look at and see where you need to go and easy to enter directions on the fly.

The only thing it doesnt do very good is find places I'm looking for or display traffic. I use google maps on my phone for both of those.

To be completely honest, I was in the same dilemma about a month ago when looking for my TL.. I had finally decided that I would settle for a non-navi TL as long as it was a 6MT..Finally I came across an 06 6MT w/Navi within my price range and let me tell you I couldnt be any happier.. Had I settled for a non-navi TL I would always feel like somethings missing.. And although some might find that its not as important as other options or criterias when looking into a car, believe me when I say once you have it, that's when you'll realize how much use you get out of it.. Not to mention that it just makes the interior look that much better + better resale.. Wait for the right one to come along, you wont regret you did.

I all ready have several top of the line Garmin GPS's I use in my TL and other cars/bikes/atvs that the OEM navi can and never will perform better then. I would be getting a OEM navi for pimp my ride kinda thing plus I do like the idea of the way you can control the car gadgets threw the navi unit like temp and radio and so on.

IMO, the nav. system on my '07 is pretty worthless, and just riddled with incorrect directions. I have downloaded the latest updates, which you have to pay for, by the way.

Just the other day I was on the 270 outerbelt headed for downtown Columbus. The Nav. told me to get on 71NORTH, when, in fact, I needed to go SOUTH.

My wife's aftermarket nav. has more features, and seems more accurate.

Warning issued.

Guys, a warning has been issued for unnecessary language in this thread. There's a lot of good input going on here-let's keep it clean.

In the trunk is a device similar to a DVD player. It contains a disc which has the updated guides for the United States. A new update is ordered from Acura for about $120, if I remember correctly. Acura sends me a notice when a new update is available, and they send me a new disc.

I wanted to get Navi on a TL when I was in the market, but ended up with a good deal on an A-spec 6-speed without it. I'm glad I got the deal and the car I did, but I find myself sometimes wishing I had the factory Nav. I don't necessarily need it for navigation, but mainly wanted it due to the interior aesthetics. Like stated though, and something that has crossed my mind a lot, you could always add Navi in the future

i'd opt to purchase a tl with less miles and preferably acura certified over the issue of the car having nav or not..
you can buy a complete set up for $1600 on ebiz..

GL though OP.

When i got my car the difference between navi and non navi was $1500+ for same model years with same mileage.

Personally i think it looks cool but i would never use it, i don't get lost driving around the town i live in.

For me it all came down to price. I don't regret saving $1500+ I don't know how the pricing is these days (navi vs. non) or if money is a factor for you.

I've owned two 3g TL's - 04 non-navi and 08 navi. I'd never go back to a non-navi TL again not only for the Navi itself but for all the other things it integrates with. Save your money, take your time looking and find the color you like w/navi. You won't regret it.

I too was in the same boat, I've decided to hold out and wait till one shows up with Nav. I've been looking for months and nothing has come up. It's standard on the Type S so if I find a good deal I guess I'll go that way. Good luck.
