Navi screen

A friend of mine this morning pointed out that I have a bad pixel on my navi screen. It just shows red all the time. Anybody else have this happen?

Thanks,

Greg

I guess when you look at your car through rose-colored glasses, that you wouldn't notice the dead pixel.

I agree with desijatt - you need new friends.

FYI, usually the standard in the computer world is that if an LCD panel has fewer than about 5-7 dead pixels that is within acceptable limits and the computer manufacturer will not replace/repair it. I would guess about the same standard will apply here.
I will say one thing however, and you are on your own to do what you like with this information, but I discovered a few years ago that you can sometimes push really hard right on the dead pixel and it will actually fix it. Technically I have no idea why this works, and maybe it only worked because of a little luck, but if it really bothers you and you want to play around, you can try this method. I just don't really recommend it.

Hmm... I was concerned about this too before I bought my car. I haven't looked that hard on mine, but AirlineMuseum.c is right. The industry would consider this as an acceptable limit and doubt they'll replace it. It happenes on almost all LCD's and CCD's in digital cameras (usually 4 MP or higher). In my personal experience, I would find one camera that didn't have at least one hot/dead pixel. It drove me nuts.

I guess you can ask your dealer, if they'll replace it. Please let us know how things go, if you decide to ask. TIA.

I would look for a working pixel in your pixel jar.

I wouldn't try the "push really hard" method because of the fact that it's a touch screen. You have a better chance of damaging the screen than fixing it. I'm certain that you can get the dealer to replace it if you are persistant enough.

actually for what it's worth, I've heard that it is not actually a touch screen. At the edge of the screen all around there are infrared light beams and receptors. When you "touch" the screen, you actually block some of the lights from reaching their receptors, and the system maps the x and y coordinates of what your blocking to where you touched on the screen.
I don't know for sure that's how it works - it's just what I read somewhere on here.

Ok, I tried to push on it last night, but there is some kind of protective piece of hard plastic covering the screen. I will have to call the dealer and see what they say.

more to come,

Thanks,

Greg

Well, there you go - that probably proves it's not a traditional touch screen. You could never get that type of touch screen to work with a hard plastic cover.
