I have my display set to "Auto"

The manual says, that when in Auto, if the headlights are off, the Navi is in "Day" mode, and when the headlights are on the Navi is in "Night" mode.

However in my TL, headlights on OR off, the navi displays in Day mode, I have made sure the setting is set to auto, but it doesn't change.. what gives?

 

did you press the MAX button on the dash where you adjust the brightness for the gauages? when you press this it goes to day mode reguardless of the headlight setting. press the minus once on for the dash dimmer and it will go back to normal.

 

no, the brightness is maybe 1 notch above the middle position, far from max..

If I set into AUTO mode, no matter the headlight on/off, my display setting is always sticky with AUTO option.

Did you say your Navi is in "Day" mode? Maybe your Navi is not in "AUTO" mode properly... ??

 

in day mode, the background on the map is tan, in night mode, its grey.... when set to Auto, when headlights are off, map is tan, when headlights on, map is grey... my navi is set to Auto... headlights off, map is tan, headlights on, map is TAN (should be grey according to the manual)

 

I have mine set to AUTO. With headlights ON the map background is in NIGHT mode (black); with the headlights OFF the map is in DAY mode (tan). When driving at daytime with headlights on (rain) I press the MAX button to display the map in DAY mode.

 

yes thats HOW it should function, mine doesn't, what should i do?

 

I would certainly have the dealer look into it. In the meantime you might want to try changing the brightness level to every detente possible. I know that's probably reaching a bit but you might find a setting where it in fact would work correctly. Either way it's not functioning properly and should be brought to the dealer's attention.

 

called dealer, said it might be control unit, taking it in today to have em look at it

 

well news to me... dealer showed me the problem... the guage lights can't be set to max either.. it has to be 1 notch under max or less... then it will change to night mode... i feel so dumb

 

Based on your early post, I thought you have adjusted this... I thought your brightness setting had been btwn Max and middle.
