Question Navi loves the Post Office.

My 04 Navi sure has a bizarre voice recognition. When ever I ask for something other than "chinese restaurant," Mr. Navi seems to think that I am looking for the post office.

"Find nearest wal-mart."
"Finding nearest Post Office..."

This seems to happen more often than not. Anyone else see this behavior?

Also, the navigation database seems to be very old. There has been an Albertson's near my house for years, but Navi insists on directing me to the one 30 miles away instead. I think maybe the SoCal Grocery Strikers got into the database? :-)

When I ask it for the nearest Rite-Aid it gives me lots of categories of stores and again wants to send me to Ohio (seriously). Maybe Navi wants to finish the break-in period sooner so we can work on those 0-60 times?

Anyway, I'm off to the Post Office now because I asked for a hamburger... :-)

Is your database July 2003? Mine recognizes every business in the area around me. I've found you have to ask exactly the way the voice prompt tells you. If I am wrong it usually adjusts the fan speed. I will go back and listen to the help, try again and then it always works. Of course there are still those thing called buttons which I guess work too

I did not think that the voice recog would allow you to search by name. I thought that you could only search by catagory. I doubt that the system was designed so that you could say "find nearest wal-mart" or "...nearest McDonalds".

Most of you know that I think the HFL voice recog is poor. However, as jss1 said, the NAV voice recog is system is very good if you say the correct command.

Yes thats correct I think. You can ask for "Find Shopping" and it will list the stores which you can select, or "Find Nearest Gas Station", but you can't say "Find nearest Sunoco". If you do the system looks for the closest thing and for me its usually "fan speed". I just have it read the navigation commands and reword my question and it works every time. The problem is there are so many commands and there is definitely a learning curve. which I am not at the end of yet and its been a week.
