Mysterious Blue Lights

New discovery last night (rarely drive at night, so this one took me awhile) - Had lights on - went to reach up and press the garage door opener button and I see my hand turn blue! There are two holes up near the Homelink buttons and they each emit a blue beam of light. What is the pupose of these lights - are they shining somewhere or lighting up something down below?

For the most part, it's cosmetic lighting. It lights the shifter area with a cool blue glow that matches the gauge lighting and the lighting behing the volume/tuning knobs.

Actually, these lights are another part of the ACS personal monitor control system. They gauge your heart rate, blood pressure, and retinal reaction during night driving. They also digitally record any illicit activities which might take place in the cockpit and send the recordings directly to the Paris Hilton sex tape website.

Yes, they are controlled with the brightness level, just like the blue light rings around the radio knobs.

Cool! Nice clear answer as usual. I swear you sleep with the manual under your pillow...or in the car.

Neither, but I do have the ideal setup. My manual is on my computer desk, within arms reach. My computer desk is about 5 feet from the door to the garage, and the car, being on the far side of the garage, is approximately 12 feet from the door. So it is very easy to go and check out anything I need to know.

was the blue ring around the knobs necessary? I LOVE the blue color no doubts, but there they sit by themselves standalone blue - would the AC and Radio been ugly if they used a blue font/color instead of the green / gray text that they did?

Do the knobs blend in better with the NAV models?

i personally think that the AC and radio should of been backlight with a dim white or something of that extent, it would match better with the blue. then again, i don't know how it'd look.

My friends 5 series also has them. Just wondering, does the blue light help filter out the bright white lights thus reducing the glare that you see on your rear view? I know that the rear view is already auto dimming..was just wondering if the blue lights also aide the auto dimming rear view mirror in....AUTO-Dimming
