Hey mio:

I think you missed the point of my post. PoochaKannInc really said it better - it's about priorities. Some people are more fortunate than others. However that doesn't mean they are more mature or responsible; and that's not directed at jon.

I get a kick out of reading the posts on the board. There are undoubtedly a number of members whose parents bought there cars for them - and that's okay. Adding mods is great too, there are a number of things I would like to do to my car, some of which would probably drive my wife directly to a divorce lawyer!

The funniest thing I read everday are the comments about what is "rice" or "ghetto" and what isn't. You can almost pick the region of the country someone lives in by the mods they do to their car. The West Coast guys are definitely the most aggressive (and seem to be the youngest). That's no surpise since the West Coast really sets the tone for the car culture in the Country.

My Company's parking lot has it's share of Camry's, Accords, and minivans. It's also got several Z's, Mustang GT's, G-35 coupes (I almost got one of those), BMW's, and two 911's. Our engineers tend to have the best cars. A few carry some interesting mods, and it's the younger guys doing it.

What does this 47 year old want to do with his TL? I like to go the stealth route. Ever heard of a sleeper? From the outside it looks stock. My wish list is:

18" dark grey wheels with High Performance tires;
modified suspension;
turbo/supercharger (found a local shop that specializes in Hondas/Acuras);
body color painted grill;
Brembo brake upgrade; and - you aren't going to believe this one
new leather - I want to replace the stock ebony seat covers and door inserts with a medium red perforated leather.

The leather upgrade is only $700 from a local shop who has done other work for me in the past. The contrast between the red seats and inserts and the remaining ebony interior will look great. I've seen several Porsches with this combo. Anthracite is a close match for Porsche's Seal Grey.

How "ghetto" does that sound?

What I don't like?

the A-Spec body kit - I think it ruins the lines of the car and looks like what they tack on to a Corolla to make it a "Sport model".

the headlight "eye-lids" - it's like guys are running out of things to put on their cars!

rear wing - another Corolla "Sport" add-on. The trunk lid lip spoiler looks much better to me. They put wings on Mailbu's too.

Before anyone get offended, remember that these are just my opinions and personal taste preferences. If everyone liked the same thing, we'd all be driving the exact same plain-jane cars. Go look up a 1981 Chrysler K-car on the internet to see what I mean.

If anything, I appreciate the passion you guys have. Hold on to it, because once the kids start coming and the mortgage starts getting more expensive, your priorities may be changing. I wonder if that "23 year-old Kid", as mio puts it, has a 5,000 sq ft. house, three kids in private school, or a wife addicted to shooping malls yet!

Keep the faith.

Tiime to go back to my room now, the nurse is calling us to breakfast. Friday is french toast day and if you don't get in line early, you miss out on double syrup.

Everything you said is dead on (and you managed to say it clearly, coherently, and in English! ). The mods you're looking to do sound nice...please post some pics if and when you do them (I'd really love to see a two-tone interior on a TL). Funny thing about that personal preference thing, though...I think the car's lines are missing something without the ASPEC kit, although I do dislike the tacked on look it has due to gaps (I know, they're fixable...I'm just lazy). Like you said, to each his own.

By the way, if you're up for it, Red Lobster has a killer early bird special at 4:00...

Man, don't tempt me! We have to be back in our rooms at 4:00 pm to watch "The People's Court" and "Judge Judy".

Is that early bird special a buffet?

I know how you feel

Back in 1989, I bought a new Ford Ranger 4x4. I was messing around with some buddies in a flooded parking lot after having my truck for 2 months. The water was much deeper than I thought and ended up in a spot with water coming over the hood.. You can guess the rest..

1. I pulled the plugs and cranked the motor, and actually got it running again. Although not very well.
2. Water got everywere in the engine (especially into the oil pan)
3. The engine quickly started ticking (lifters) then siezed.
4. Even with stock intake, this was not covered by dealer.
5. Insurance claim (I told them flooded road, not parking lot) paid for new crate motor. Was without my new truck for almost 3 months!

Basically, I can't slam the guy.. CAI's DO make a difference in performance.. I have the AEM and love it. If I hadn't been through this situation, I might not think about the damage that can be done.

What I get a kick out of is that when someone comes out and asks for an opinion and you give it to them (either Y or N) there are 20 others from the opposite side starting to bash you...

I mean the person is asking for an opinion and I am giving them MY opinion (MY being the keyword) I am not saying YOU should do it or not, that is upto you to decide....

Thanks for posting Gurney !! Your not the only old fart around here. I think the A-Spec package makes the TL look like a riced out Honda. Blue LED's, Wings, DUB's, lowering kits.....get real....now that's funny !!

To each his own, though.

Man, the good old days - no wife, no kids, just my car! I can't even imagine having time to wax my car once a month!

I envy these guys, but it is funny watching the competition to add every possible mod to their cars.

Does Acura offer carbon fiber curb feelers?

Anyone know where I can get a set of fender skirts for a TL? Anyone know what a fender skirt is?

Man I AM old!

Uh oh. It's nap time. We get rice (no pun intended) pudding for snack today.

Let me input this into my computer....Aha!! The results are:

18" dark grey wheels with High Performace tires + brembo breaks <> sleeper...

As soon as I see brembo breaks on your vehicle, I know I am not gonna mess with you.....

Guys on this Board would notice the Brembo brakes, but not the average Joe on the street.

The dark wheels aren't as flashy as chrome ones. Again, I little more stealthy.

Humor me, I'm old!

Speaking of being old....

Did you know that at the old folks homes they give the men viagra pills along with sleeping pills?

The sleeping pill puts them to sleep.
The viagra pill keeps them from rolling out of bed.
