My race with the Subaru Impreza WRX STi
All I can say is to watch your back with this one the car is fast as hell.
I was going down 95 from NYC to Baltimore going about ah maybe 70 to 75 MPH when I pass one of the exit ramps and out of the corner of my eye I see this white Impreza whip off the ramp on to 95 behind me. Now I always heard that they were fast but had know idea what an understatement that was. This guy was in my a$$. As I see him behind me I down shift and put it to the floor, I could not shake him AT ALL. Then when the traffic lightens up he blows past me like my $hit was in park. I give it all I have and I'm right on him. We hit a nice clear spot with no traffic and open it up. We are side by side and I don't know if he was letting up but I slowly start to pull away. Very slowly but on the top end I believe that if we would have kept going I might have won. Now like I said I don't know if he was letting up or not but the simple fact that I was pulling away from him very slowly leads me to believe that he wasn't. Now I do have 19's on my TL so that could have hurt me a little but all in all all I can take away from that race is aleast my car looks better but as far as speed I got to give it to the Subaru. How is Subaru as far as quality and reliabilty? I think it's AWD too w/ 300 HP AND 300 in Torque DAMN!!!

can't say good kill...but good race though...and your right in saying that our cars are prettier

The regular WRX is about as quick as the 6-spd TL, but can be had for around $23. Plus, there are numerous mods that will bump up the HP. It's major weakness, and the reason we didn't buy one, is the interior. It's not bad, but we wanted something closer to the TL.
By the way, the STI is fairly stripped from what I remember. Doesn't even have a radio to slow it down.
As for reliability, Subaru's are pretty reliable, and very fun to drive.

Note to Mr. Loyalty:
Acura owners do not stoop to such petty battles on highways. You drive a luxury car. Go buy a Toyota if you want to participate in immature games. You're giving us all a bad name.
Thank you.

Naw, it's rice styling just like the Celica, Neon and EVO. It all started with the Supra. You don't see wings on C5 Vettes even though they're raced or on sedans like the S40, Accord or others even though raced in the British Touring Car championships.

I was loyal Subaru till about 2 years ago. Then I went Honda. Then by extension and maturity in taste, Acura.
Though the Sub's rank high in reliability ratings, and in my personal experience were reliable in key areas for sure....get ready for some oil leaks at around 60K. Every one I had (3) leaked like a siv. I've heard it's common and has to do with their seal material and the horizontally opposed (pancake) config. of the engine.
I didn't care so much when I was young, parking on gravel and rented drives, but it gets annoying when your dripping indelible oil on stuff you own. Plus it stinks, it ain't good for the fishes, and if you don't pay attention, it costs big.
The last Subaru I had nearly every seal was leaking at 62K (happened just after warranty expired) and my mech., understandably, wanted $$$$$ to replace them ALL. I said goodbye...and haven't looked back.

It has the power similar to your buick. well, maybe after some modding.

I'm an avid test driver, and having test driven the EVO and STI, I would say the STI was fun, but the EVO was a sure adventure. The salesman was constantly asking me to slow it down in the turns and highway clover ramps.
Wings are for high speed driving, to keep the a$$ end down. Both these vehicles do not need it, as they won't ever reach the speeds where it would benefit them. All show, but still plenty of go.
I didn't like the STI cause it was clunkier sounding and it didn't come standard with a radio. That's like optioning A/C, I mean Climate Control. :p

I'm a big fan of the spec sheets for the STi and EVO, but, in my opinion, someone shopping an Acura TL is looking for an incorporation of luxury and sport...something the STi and EVO clearly lack.
Regardless, every time there's a STi or EVO driving on the street, I can't help but stare at it. They exude a "different" kind of beauty, I guess.

I'm sure everyone here understands that a TL would get toasted by the WRX. Hands down the WRX is one POWERFUL and FAST car, BUT just look at it...the exterior styling is soo BLAH...i think the driving aspect is the only thing it has going for it. I've never been inside one, but I can't imagine it's anything close to TL interior..

The sad thing is that if the TL came in an AWD configuration with a 305HP engine this thread would not even exist. These features have already been baked into the current TL so it will not be a challenge for Acura to add them when their technology is ready for primetime. We'll just have to make due with the FWD 270HP configuration for now...

The sti is a rocket.
I checked them out when they first came out.
The car is cool and fast but the car feels like a tin can and I would not like may chances in an accident.
The tranny felt like it was filled with marbles.
On the radio thing, my hat goes off to Subaru. They understand that their customers would rather go to the local stereo shop and get just what they want instead of some corporate compromised system. I will take this statement back when I see a car come with Focal speakers from the factory.

A warmed over STi will put away my LS1 powered Z28.:wow:
The Neon SRT-4 hauls arse, too...especially the '04 version. ITs engine it TRULY under-rated, it's light and lacks AWD (which equates to less driveline loss).

They need to offer a "mature" version...no fins/wings, no insanely large "driving lights." smaller air scoop, no loud, gold colored wheels, etc.
That car was also on my list. I went to look at one and almost died laughing @ the outrageous styling. No factory stereo, either...

As mentioned earlier...they're going for that "rally" look, but to me, it screams RICE! I like the more "sleeper" styling...like the old Fox body cars were and the GN was...you just don't know it's fast until you got your ass kicked by one. AMG, MPower and the Audi S-cars are more my speed...some trim changes, small badging, better wheels...understated gfx if any...but smokin' power under the hood.
The Evo makes the same "mistakes"...it just looks like every other plastic bolt on ricer POS. The SRT-4 also. In 5 years what are they going to do next? 50LBs of vinyl stickers and lameass 5in fart cans?

Not that I am commending the 'petty battle', but why does it matter what car he/she drives? Just because we are Acura owners mean we have to drive a different way? How ridiculous.

For a correction, it is not just a luxury car, but a luxury sports sedan. Some buy it for it's speed, some for it's luxury and comfort, and most buy it for both. To each his/her own.

Its so funny how people are blasting the interior of the STi and complaining how it has no luxury, blah blah blah. Its like comparing a Viper to a Mercedes S....totally different vehicles. I guarantee that if Acura came with 305hp and AWD, the STi would still absolutely SMOKE it on a course, but that was its intention. Hell, it would smoke the S, the M, the AMG on most courses and a little mod $, it would probably hang with vettes.

We shouldn't be calling these god-chariots "rice" just because we don't go down highways at 130 mph where the wing really becomes noticeable.

They could EASILY offer toned down versions whereby (among other things), the asinine wings were replaced by small, "ducktail" spoilers @ the rear.

with that in mind...i'm wondering if subaru or mitsubishi offers alternatives to the wings they have on their RICERS, i mean racers, or rallye cars?

I don't care if it's 1000HP and runs 8s, those wings look retarded and ruin what is otherwise a great car.

BTW, even with all the money spent on the so-called tuner cars, they ALL got their asses handed to them by a stock Z06 on OEM radials.

I was commenting on the use of the word "rice." "Rice" in the usual context means "all show, no go," i.e. form over function. You can say they look ridiculous, you can say they are cop-magnets, but you can't say they are "rice."
And finally, I'm GLAD they're "counterproductive to the mission of fast [illegal] driving." Keep it on the track.

Blue? It's not flourescent or anything...but the gold wheels look like hell too.
Rice is anything that is all show and no go. The motor isn't rice. The suspension isn't rice...the WING is full tilt triple throwdown cage match rice. Just as if you put 30LBs of vinyl stickers on it or neon lights.
