My NHB TL, The Story

Hello everybody!
I'm going to start off by introducing myself Since I am AcuraZine's newest memeber and since everybody will start seeing my name a lot . I am an avid car enthusiast and a full time Purdue student out of Lafayette, Indiana. I am only 18 years young, but dont let that fool you. I know a lot about cars and hope to expand my learning even deeper through this site!

Soo enough about me, lets get to what you want to hear.

For my 16th birthday my parents purchased me a 2009 Honda Fit Sport. It was a beastly 1.5l 117hp 4cyl engine, but some people just dont understand :thumbsdow (It wasn't my decision anyways). Over the next two years I customized it with the best that I had - Funds were limited .
-K&N Cold Air Intake
-Upgraded Horn
-12'' 3500w Memphis m3 mojo (DOPE)
-15% tint
-Jl Door speakers, Complete
-De Badged
-Brake Calipers Painted

Now the problem is, why am I in an Acura forum if I have a honda fit? The answer?

July 30, 2010 I was headed Eastbound on Us52 and a car failed to yield through an intersection while I was passing through at 55mph. This is the result . It was later found out that the person I hit was an Illegal Immigrant with no license or insurance. Luckily our insurance company covered our losses and would take the man into court to get their money later.

On to a better note! Since I no longer had a car, but had money for one, I had to make a purchase. So I gave my money to my parents and they took care of that!

They went out and bought a 2010 Acura TL 3.5L V6 AWD with ALL of the accessories. No this wasn't my car, but their old car in their garage was! SPOILS : 2004 Acura TL 3.2L 5AT slap shift, with navigation.

I have been in love with that TL since the day they brought it home new in 2004. It had been parked in a garage every night and only had 75k Miles on it, which wasn't bad for a J series engine.

So where to start?
-10% Tint! I liked the 15% on the Fit, but I wanted a little darker which the 10% accomplished!
-Remember the Subwoofer in the fit? It's in the TL!
-Bass Remote
-De Badged

I just purchased a K&N Complete Cold Air Intake System
and a 28hz subwoofer for my Christmas present. I install everything myself so I will have this all done by December 26th!

A few more mods I'm doing to the TL (AS SOON AS I GET A LITTLE EXTRA SPENDING CASH)
-ASPEC body kit
-Greddy Evo II Catback Exhaust System
-Throttle Body Spacer
-Comptech Supercharger
-Deep Dish Rims 19''
-Tein SS suspension Kit
-Cleared Out headlights
-Any suggestions? ( I would LOVE to hear from Fellow Ziner's)

Thanks for Looking and I hope to see you all in the future!

welcome to acurazine

thx for sharing your story with us, glad you ended up with a TL. good move!

a-spec kit is a must, that is next on my list. suspension is a must as well. these are 2 things that i would do first, then focus on performance add-ons.

there is a wealth of info here on the forum, search and read anything that interests you. almost any question you have, has been asked and answered numerous times before.

oh, and make sure you have deep pockets bc this place will run you dry!

Congrats and welcome. Wish my parents would have bought me ANYTHING on my 16th birthday. I had a '84 Nissan Sentra that I bought for $400 bucks.
(btw: Purdue sucks!!)

Welcome! And congrats on the new car!

I'd start with the Aspec and Teins as well first. They'll make a huge difference and compliment the rest of your mods brilliantly.

Have you thought about getting 07-08 Base taillamps? I like how the look with the Aspec rear.

Looks like you're well on your way to owning a pretty nice car.

Congrats on the TL

Start with the A-spec, make sure you get the hydra bag for the K&N.. cut the plastic behind your grill so your filter is exposed.

Your TL is slap shift?

congrats on the TL...

IMO - Systems are a waste and add too much weight to the car. What is the point of "performance" mods when you added 150lbs in the rear?

But to each their own!

It's not 150 pounds of bricks in there. Why not have improved performance and good sound?

I TOTALLY agree.

On another note, why clear the lights when you can black them out? Looks better expecially when you are going the all black route.

as AMAN said above not 150lbs, some systems can easily approach that though, but something like mine with a single JL W6, is probably about 50-60 lbs total weight to the car (and even then i made it quick disconnect, i can pull the entire sub, box, and amp in like 1 minute, then reconnect it in like 2 minutes)

I think the best you can hope for with a few bolt-ons and 150lbs of system is stock performance without the system.

My car is like night and day without the audio equipment. Mine is probably heavier than normal. 2- 12W6s in the bandpass box, 2 amps, dynamatted doors, under the rear seat and the front floor. Mine weighed 3,700lbs without me in it so about 200lbs of audio gear. It puts a larger dent in cornering ability than straight line. Going to a single W6 and a single amp soon.

Congrats on the upgrade. Sorry to see the Fit totaled. Bugs me when Acura dealers (namely Ed Martin Acura) put "TL" badges on the sides of a lot of the 4G TLs they sell. I'm sure your parent's are thrilled with their new car though.

75K on your 04=still really young.

Congrats on the car, you'll love hanging around this site...so much info & cool stuff. Oh, and as for your mods list...you are gonna need quite a bit more than just "some extra" spending cash to complete it LOL!! The s/c alone with proper supporting mods & tuning is $6K plus. Enjoy your stay. We have all become a bit poorer after finding Azine, but it's fun nonetheless.

Aspec kit as first mod FTW!

They don't. To add the "TL" on the side and the "TL", "ACURA" and "SH-AWD" on the back was extra. They aren't a single word, they had to be put on by hand. My dad likes them :thumbsdow

Agreed, but what you don't take into consideration is the GREAT quality of sound that I listen to EVERY day. I am in my car more than anywhere else so why not? Also with the intake, the sound of the car is about 5 times better. The pros FAR outweigh the cons.

It's taken into consideration, I have a pretty badass system in mine. My point is you're going to be doing performance mods just to get back to where you were stock. Many people forget this. They add a ton of weight and a ton of mods and the car is no faster than it was stock and they don't know why.

I made the choice to run the subs on the street which come out at the track. I can tell you that the car requires a complete swaybar adjustment to compensate for the difference in weight on the rear of the car.

Welcome and congrats on the TL!

I enjoyed reading through your post. Sorry to see what happened to the Fit. A while ago I was considering selling the TL and getting a 2G Fit but I don't think I could deal with the downgrade in power.

No clue but it seems like every time I go there, 1/2 of their TLs and RLs have extra badges on them and/or have the grilles painted (which is alright). I'll have to look at the sticker price of one next time.
