My next car...Help me choose Ziners!

Hey guys. Looking to by an Acura Tl, its no time soon i'm just so in love with this car i visit Acurazine everyday! lol. I'm sure by now i know the main trany problems with this car but i'm not even worried about it for some reason.

I'm trying not to spend more than $10,000 but then that limits me to pretty much 2004-2006 with about a $100,000 miles which is ok for me. (Considering my Camry has 180,000 and still going strong).

Should i just wait couple more months and get an 2007/08?
Or a well cared 04-06 is fine?

Besides looks, what makes you so certain that you want a 3G?

Also STAY AWAY FROM AUTOMATIC 2004 TLs. Transmission failure is very likely especially if purchasing with 100k+ miles. Just because your Camry lasted a long time doesn't mean the TL will.

If you want something that you can modify for performance (speed) than the 3G TL isn't a great candidate.

You might say something like "I came from a Camry so the stock TL is perfectly powerful to me". Well....... If you plan on owning the car for more than 3 years there is going to be a time where you start itching to make the car somewhat "quicker". Your going to quickly realize how basic bolt ons on a auto TL is still pretty sad.

I've owned my 3G TL for 3 years now and I kind of wish I got something more sporty and can be made faster. I would suggest a G35 sedan/coupe 6speed. I am very well aware Infiniti G's are very common and every 10-15 G35 you'll see maybe 1 3G TL

If I could do it all over again I would have got either a 6 speed base or 6spd type-s model. The automatic is just pathetic. I have spent well over $2,000 in mods to increase HP (Pre-Cat deletes, J-Pipe, Quad cat-back exhaust, Cold air intake, Hondata FlashPro) and my car is still disappointing. I hugely regret even bothering WASTING money to make it "quicker".

Even after all those mods my car is still neck and neck when racing a STOCK 2003 G35 SEDAN AUTOMATIC. FML

Keep driving the Camry and save your $$. When the time comes to retire the Camry buy yourself an 07-08 and look at the Type-S.

I have driven My cousins 2011 G37xS and my uncles 2007 acura tl base AT. The tl just speaks to me. Infinity would be my second choice tho. Where is live i tl's drives by my street like its the only car on the road.... I'm not into modding cars & i'm not really looking for more speed. Just that i want a better car & i love the tl.

You said it yourself. 2007-2008 TL it is.

I'm more into performance and up-to-date gadgets and tech. I wouldn't be shopping for a 3G TL in 2014.

Features like heated seats, back up camera, bluetooth, aux cable that was once only available for somewhat "luxury" and "expensive" cars (think $30,000+) is now standard on a lot of cheaper low end cars.

The TL was once considered a good bang for your buck because of the standard options but now-a-days it's nothing special at all.

If you're on a budget, consider how much it costs to maintain these cars. The tuneup can easily run you $800++

Are you talking about the 105K service? Otherwise $800 for a "tuneup" seems very pricey.

If you're waiting for next yr you should still raise your budget. Even next year I doubt many type S's will be under $10k

I would at least get an 07-08. Looks more modern IMO. Cars usually more reliable during the end of there generation.

I'd definitely go with a newer '07-'08 if I were you as well. Better transmission and some nice updates.

This is true. Type-S prices are holding steady. I did a nat'l search (autotrader) of all TL-S's auto and manual and came up with 262 listings.

Highest Price:$25,995
Lowest Price:$9,988
Average Price:$17,626

Just make sure the timing belt has been changed if you plan on buying a TL with 100k+ miles.

The timing belt service costs about $800-$1100 depending on dealership so you want to make sure they can provide proof that it has been done rather than word of mouth.

A 1 owner car would be ideal. Also make sure it's a clean title and not rebuilt/salvage title.

Proof of previous service history is a plus. Oil change receipts or documented maintenance.

My car is a 2008 with 83,000 miles so the ones you listed are a bit on the high mileage for the year model but if it's been well maintained than it doesn't matter.

They are the same, its just minor upgrade such as ATF cooler and paddle shift other than that its the same trany with the same grade logic control.

2007-2008 base and Type-S both have transmission coolers.

It's really up to you. It doesn't look bad but you need to place it on a lift and check out how it looks underneath.

Price isn't bad but I prefer navigation and back up camera especially since it's a luxury vehicle. In my opinion the navigation system makes the interior look so much more better compared to 2 plastic screens.

By the way the back up camera is only available on 07-08 TL with Navi.

04-06 TL with Navi doesn't have a back up camera factory. You can get a aftermarket camera and get it installed though.

Also the user interface for the 04-06 TL navigation screen is horrible. Very pixelated and looks ancient.

07-08 w/ Navi or bust

After owning my TL I told myself every car I own from here on out must have a navigation system and a back up camera. It's been very helpful countless times for me.

If the timing belt has been replaced and it checks out after a mechanic takes a look at it, the mileage wouldn't concern me. The price seems a bit high, though.
