My New York City Crew!!

How many of you are rolling on 19's???

I'm planning on visiting my father up there for about a month or so, and I'm going to be driving my car up.

I've got 35-Series tires all around on my 19's which are fine for Tampa's roads...

But i'm worried about them being able to hold up in NYC.

I do have my stock rims/tires.... but if i'm rollin around the city it'd be nice to have the extra style of my 19's....

If they're as good as shit though, I'd rather put the stockers back on

northwest bronx (riverdale, kingsbridge) is a huge theft area for acura and honda and lexus. Not only on the car, but the headlights especially. One of the highest theft rates of headlights per car in the country. Do not, park your acura overnight on the street in the bronx. YOu will be disappointed. And for you non new york city people, riverdale is an upscale place to live in the bronx. Lots and lots of money.

I live in LI. It would be fine on LI but in the city dont bring 19's. The potholes will ruin them.

look man, you cant judge the pot holes on your wheels, because you can bend your stock 17's on a nice pothole and never have a problem with your 19's. I think you should put your stocks on, because are you really gonna wanna put 1300 miles each way on your nice 35 series low pros, that probably cost you $300 a pop or so and only have a life of like 10-15,000 miles

oh and the TSX/TL's arent that bad. they are the SECOND most stolen headlights in NYC. The number 1 most stolen headlight is the H.I.D. 2001 - 2003 Maxima's. those can get jacked while you're paying for your gas.

Don't bring the 19's up to NYC. No matter how much you try to avoid the potholes you will eventually end up going over them. Save yourself the heartache.

alarm

Thats a good one. If you have ever been to new york, you would know an alarm is not worth two cents. Car alarms going off, are part of our daily life, and is treated as an annoyance of sound, not something to be checked out.
People call the police that a car alarm is going off, because of noise complaints.
Unless the alarm sound is something you will be in airshot of, and can respond to, it is a waste here, if you expect an alarm to warn any one other then yourself.
In new york city, when there is a good gust of wind on certain streets, you can hear dozens of alarms going off from the wind alone. And forget about people who are parking their cars. There are some people who park, and hit the bumper behind them, and then the bumper ahead of them, setting off two cars alarms. No one will even look or think twice. Its a hard city for things like that.

Thanks

A comment on the headlights. It's the 2nd gen TL headlights that are theft targets in the Northeast. The 3rd gen TL headlights are MUCH more difficult to remove--this problem was addressed by Acura.

With all due respects neuronbob, you are correct in that the 3rd gen are much harder to steal, but I am the one taking reports on them all the time, and plenty of 3rd generations are being lost at a phenom rate.
Not just from tl,s but from toyota fold(lexus) and others as well. I have true information on this, and I thought my 3gen tl would be more protected, and theoretically they are, but the bad guys will just steal the car first if they have to, and they get the lights, or spend an extra 60 seconds at sight to remove.
Have you ever seen any tapes of car strippers who know what they are looking for? Two fellows can almost completely strip down a vehcile, in under 20 minutes.
The most one or two minutes, if they are just looking for a certain part/ s.
And with the tl,s seemingly becomming more common in the last year,(at least what I see on the street), the thefts seem to be more like five to one, for 3generation, as oppossed to previous generations.
The beams from lexus are going at horrendous rates also .

Thanks

Damn I know you wana go up there with your rims...I would want too...but your making the right choice! and if your lowered and have coil overs you might wanna race the car for highway driving and potential holes???

Just think about waters ave. .....between dale mabry and anderson....

with my expierence thats how their highways are...especially around queens (LGA airport)

All the five boros have major potholes and creators. Drive the posted speed limit and make sure your refelix are up to par, because you will be dodging potholes especially in Bx,Bklyn, and,Manhattan.

Yeah I was lowered on Tein SS (05 acura tl selling it now) a lil more than 2's(no wheel gap)...I hated that street...my trick was to stay on the right lane (when heading towards dale mabry)

...for some reason the right lane looks the worse, but once you pass over them missing puzzle looking shits it doesn't feel so bad as the other lanes....

and than right after passing manhattan ave to get all the way on your left..since theres a big "opposite hill" in the center and right lane...than once you pass dale mabry you gotta worry about the man holes (lil volcanoes) being above the ground a good 2 to 3 inches!!!!

Just be very careful and like the other guy said keep your reflexes up

BTW, any pics of your ride??? your avatar looks nice !

Its basically just one road that stretches for about 5 miles(around where I stay)...every where else seems perfect for lowered cars...just this particular road they just decided to put a new road on top of it which was the perfect solution for about a year than all of a sudden they were missing jig saw puzzle from the road...now there all over the road...sometimes you can even see the yellow stripes from the previouse road underneath the new one!
