My New TL...1st Impressions & Some Photos
Just took delivery yesterday of my '04 TL...what a marvel of engineering and technology!
Got fed up with my Audi after too many unforseen and expensive maintenance issues, so here I go with a car that's built it's reputation on reliability. My 1st impression is WOW...this car is handsome, stylish, powerful, but with very civilized road manners and amenities...all at around $$8k less than my 2000 Audi! Yes, it'd be even sweeter with AWD but the VSA is a nice touch and I really haven't encountered any torque steer. . The Navigation system, which I was ambivalent about at first, blows me away. Voice activation is very user friendly and yet comprehensive functions can be accessed with minimum learning curve and minimum fuss. Can't seem to get the display to go to Audio with Voicce Recognition...seems to require touching the "Audio" button...if anyone knows a method please let me know. XM standard is a very nice touch too! DVD-Audio seems a bit superfluous, but may be nice once more discs are released in the format.
Overall, I rate the TL a solid "8" on styling, lightyears better than the pre-2004 redesign models. See a few photos of my TL at the link below if you're interested...the green exterior shows different hues and shades depending on lighting...more than other colors, almost like getting a new TL every time the weather changes.
I love the camel interior, very warm yet classy....and the cabin has a cohesive feel unlike the pastiche of styles and components found in many vehicles in this price class. Adding to this the supportive yet comfy seating, beautifully designed, ergonomic and just plain slick Navi./Radio/Climate Control panels and I'm rating the interior and cabin amenities "9.5."
Ride quality is a "9," brought down only by the FWD and a bit less road feel than I'm used to...but man I'm looking forward to breaking free of the 600 mile break-in period and laying down on those 270 horses a bit...of course always within safe operating speed limits, officer (I still have to do traffic school...NO MORE TICKETS FOR ME!)
My summary is that for this price and class, there is no other vehicle that compares. Reliability, build quality, updated styling, gorgeous cabin, advanced technology that's easy to use, and an overall sweet ride make the TL a superior choice. I plan on keeping it a long time, and do 20-25k miles/year, so I'll let you know if my 1st impression holds up. If not, perhaps someone can suggest a good aftermarket warranty!?!
