My NBP taillight clearing adventure!!!!! (56K beware)
After seeing how others have cleared their taillights, I decided to do mines. From seeing Elegant TYPE S's picture, it "inspyred" me so much! Your car is sick man!
*These pics were taken by my nokia n95 camera phone so it might not be of good quality. Its only 5mp but still works great for me.
First removing the rear bumper for the 2nd time was PITA. Here I made the cuts around the lights as others have done:
You can leave the LED array in place while you are cutting the tail lights (to save the hassle and time) but do slide it to the side so you can remove that screw:
Taken apart:
These are variations that you can do to your lights:
With this one, I was thinking of leaving the clear corner lens diffuser out so it will look like this but I decided not to:
Here is how chrome will look on NBP (I think it was overkill...too much chrome even if you put on WDP):
Now here is the goodies:
I left the red lens in for painting to cover the inner parts since I wasn't needing it. Used 3 very light coats and 2 clear coats:
Now the HARDEST part was sliding the painted piece back into the clear cover and trying hard not to scratch the NBP paint. I manage to scratch a lil portion around the corners but its not noticeable. I give this part a 4 out of 5 difficulty. I thought taking it out of the clear cover was hard, but it was harder to put in.
Here is the finished work:
Lights on the car:
Some people say this is illegal because there are no red reflection. What about this method? This is similar to how the TSX have it:
My headlights and angel eyes thanks to JnC!:
Xtec 6000k with nokya hyper yellow fogs:
This was a tedious project I have ever done. I spent 18 hours nonstop doing this with some breaks for food. From taking the bumper off, to dremeling all 4 tail lights, to swapping the parts, to painting and waiting to dry, to sealing it up, to installing it.
I have the parts for over a month and finally manage to waste a Saturday doing this. It pays off!
Oh and my birthday is next month and xmas is after that so I will be getting suspension drop (FSD if they have it for the TL) and ron jon ravens so excuse the lame stock rims.

Great Job!
The red reflectors would make it 100% legal, but no one would ever catch on to it. I cleared my lights and 5 sets for others in the tri-state area; no one has ever been questioned on the lack of red reflectors for almost three years running now!

I see a lot of TL owners in here clearing headlights and backlight/tailights but isn't it aginst the law? Do you get pulled over for this n if you do, I assume you have to put those stocks back on? Seems like a lot of work for nothing If I'm right. Anyone?

^ it mainly depends on the cop thats pulling you over and the state your from. I guess you have to know the rules and laws for where you live. Or you can be like most of us and do the mod and find out if its legal or not. lol

The lights themselves are not illegal.
You must have amber reflectors on the front of the car.
You must have red reflectors on the rear of the car.On the TL they happen to be in the headlights and the taillights.

So in this case, there's no red rear reflectors or front amber reflectors (since the headlights are cleared to)... wouldn't that make the car as a whole illegal?

Thanks - I think I might roll with LEDs as well, do I need to do the relays for this like the front or just a straight swap?
