Is this my imagination?

It seems to me that my "Oil Usage" indicator on my MID seems to be running faster on my newer oil. This is the first oil change since the original break-in oil.

I got 7,500 miles on the first oil change, and now I've "used" 20% in under 1000 miles.

What's going on?

BTW, is anyone using a synthetic oil seeing a slower "oil usage" rate?

It could be that the MID wanted you to leave the break-in oil in longer, but now that you have changed it is going to a shorter cycle. Has anything in your driving style changed?

The MID doesn't know what kind of oil you are using, so that would not have a factor in its computations.

the manual says the MID adjusts for driving conditions and weather. has any of those changed since the last chage?

I don't know this for a fact, but I beleive the MID behaves differently after the first reset. In other words, 7k miles on the first oil, maybe only 3-4k from there on. I changed mine at 6800 miles and am now at 60% oil life at 10,000 miles. It seems once you dip below 60-70% it decreases quicker.

i felt the same way... but my oil indicator did not go down as fast as yours...

i had my first oil change @ 4,600 mile and now my car is @ 6400 mile and the oil life indicator has dropped to 70%
