My car is simply broken.

Tons of little things on my poor TL keep breaking and it's enough to make me start disliking my car. It really sucks!!

My window lock button fell off - so now I have a big red ugly lump with a glowing bulb, just hanging out on my door. Looks terrible.

Then the slide that covers my cup holders broke. When I pull it out, the cover part stays inside the console; the slider part broke off from the cover part.

The plastic foot rest on the driver's side (6mt) fell off (the one next to the clutch on the floor board).

When will she stop falling apart????? Add these little things to the bigger issues (no key fobs, paint falling off everywhere, /!\ light on, SVT light on) and I'm already itching to get rid of her.

Anyone have experience fixing/replacing any of these parts? I don't know what they're called to research them.

miss AJT, sorry that you were pressed for time in your quest to find a vehicle.

I believe I've seen a 'cup holder slide' thread on here explaining on how to fix it.

PJ...at least none of your problems (depending oh how extensive your paint issues are) are very expensive...It's a shame either way, but it could be worse

Thanks - took a few "search" tries, but found it. Doesn't look too bad.

The paint is a major issue, but the least of my concerns.

Most of your problems, IMO, comes from negligence. So take that however you want.

Take the time to get it fixed. Most of the issues you are complaining about are relatively quite cheap to repair.

You can simply put the window lock button together by gluing the piece that fell off onto the red part. As for cupholder cover, I discovered the same issue with mine and i have no idea what caused it. I never cover that area so I just live without it. I believe you may have to replace that whole section if you want it fixed. Paint issues, annoys the fuck out of me but the car is aging so that is expected plus its my daily so.... Don't let these minor issues influence your perception of the car as a whole

dang that's quite a list of small things..my window lock button fell off too but partly my fault when i took off the tape the tinter put to remind me not to use the windows. It's half in there with one clip. Gotta remind myself to superglue it down before I lose it one day.

Wow. Some very helpful and informative replies going on.

Who gives a shit if I'm whining about this a bit. I follow up that whining by asking for advice, obviously implying that I plan on fixing this stuff. When you're acustomed to driving nice vehicles, then buy something with an expectation and it's a total let down, of course it changes your perception of the car as a whole.

Why the hell would I buy the car with these issues and then complain about them?? NO - this stuff was not broken when I bought my car. Are you serious?

For those of you who have had something constructive to add, thank you.

@Stoianoff - she only has 93k miles on her.

Yes, it is quite a list. And I've already replaced the window regulator and a few other small issues.

The window lock button in mine popped off the day after I bought it. Its a cheap part to get from oemacuraparts.com. It clips in, and one of my clips broke, so I just put the smallest dab of super glue on the back of it, there is a little nub, that lines up with a hole on the red part of the switch. Cheap fix.

How is your paint chipping? The car is only 7 years old, weird.

Sorry to hear about the issues though. Like others said, just spend a few dollars to fix what bothers you.

the only flaws in my paint are from rocks on the hwy and some minor scuff marks on the doors. And of course the 3 bird poo stains on the roof.

These little things are why I really dont like buying used vehicles unless you happen to know the former owner(s) was OCD. I think a prerequisite should be that they're a member of azine. a) they cared enough about their car to join a forum b) you can stay in touch with them c) you can see their post history for things about the vehicle.

Just my rear right caliper freezing problem costed me $720 at the dealer...

WOW. Sorry man but you got raped....$720?!?

Anywho. Everyone seems to be on point here about these problems being relatively minor. Take this week to order the small parts you may need and put in a nice Saturday's work.

I think this is a very salient point. Right now you've got a handful of small problems. If you don't stop and get 'em fixed up soon, you'll have a couple more small problems .... then a couple more.

You need to get to a point where you've got a good working platform - all the annoying little problems solved and the maint, etc. all caught up.

Then when some minor issue pops up in the future, it won't be ON TOP of the other things. It'll just be that one thing on it's own.

OTOH, it could be you just a got one of the very few bad builds. If that's the case, it's just a money pit.

Yo I'm suing you for copyrighting my post.

Anyways, I did mean it. Previous owner probably did this.

THERE is almost no way that the paint should be chipping unless the previous owner cleaned it with dishwasher detergent and never waxed it or put sealant on it.

Signs of abuse on everything. I didn't say it was the OP, just an observation (as I don't know if she's the original owner)

im just being a ball buster. my advice to you is set aside a day and commit it to the car. clean, condition, wetsand, buff, wax. fix problems that can be fixed and see how you feel. if you come out feeling good about the car and proud of your work, keep her. if you feel like you wasted your time, sell it

Jayne, you said you just bought it. Does it have a good maintenance history? Any fluid that hasn't been changed needs to be done now (brake, pwr steering, coolant, MTF, oil). Also you'll also have the rather pricey 105k maintenance coming soon, so plan for that now. Trim pieces are indeed a PITA, but if the nearly 8-yr-old car runs like new (and continues to do so), that's what ultimately counts...

I checked the car fax and the only report was a fender bender. The front bumper has OBVIOUSLY been repainted and we knew that buying the car. The paint doesn't match at all. We realized later that the entire car had been repainted for some reason, but we have no idea why. It's a terrible paint job.

I know you're right - it just blows. This time of year is the WORST for me to have to dump money into the cars. So many holidays, birthdays, etc. I'll probably end up pulling out of savings, ordering everything I need, and working with hubs one weekend, just as you've recommended. The window lock button seems easy, the cupholder slide (which I really do use) seems relatively easy, still no idea about the plastic foot rest near the clutch. I have the piece, but I think the clip broke off, so it won't stay in place. Should I glue this too or order a new one do you think?

Computer in the car?? No. My window regulator went out and had to replace that. Also replaced two tires after finding out that one of them was too small and didn't match the others.

Yes, I'm aware of the 105k maintenance. My husband and I will probably do all of that work, so we will only be paying for parts. The car fax history look to be well maintained. It just was obviously not taken care of asthetically. There's a tear in the passenger seat leather, other little things. I'm ok with that for now - I did buy it with the tear. I just didn't expect all this other little shit to pile up!

Justn - thanks Boo

Sometimes you just buy a lemon. It happens. The upside it that it seems like a lot of the issues are fixable. It will cost you a lot to get the repairs done, but I think you almost have to. You will get nothing if you try to sell it.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I have had more little things go on this car than any other I've ever driven. Luckily, the majority of them are easy to find and replace for not too expensive. Do all the maintenance stuff preemptively to make sure you know you are starting fresh since previous owner didn't seem to take as good a care. I still get people that are very surprised that my car is almost 8 years old.

And I knew the original owner too, it was my stepdad and I picked the car for him.
