My car was hit in the parking garage at my work
Any legal suggestions I can take on this? If the car was unattended and hit, how does insurance company take care of it? Any idea how much this will cost?

Ouch man... that sucks..
Did you call the police and file a hit and run? If not you ought to call them and get a police report. Then submit it to your insurance company. Hopefully that helps...

Hope this helps
What a bummer. We all feel your pain. I agree a police report should be made asap. In addition, contact the parking garage people. They may have surveilance photos if the garage is so equipt. In order for your insurance to cover under uninsured motorist coverage, you would need to provide an id. of the party that hit you. This is usually at minimum a license number and vehicle description. Sounds like you don't have that at this time. Thus it could be comprehensive or collision on your dime.
Good luck and hope it all works out for the best for your sake.

Unfortunately when stuff like that happens on private property, it's your own insurance companies responsibility to cover it.... even if you saw it happen.
Hopefully you filed a police report because the insurance company will want one...

As PA said, it's going to go under comprehensive since there isn't another person's insurance to charge. It shouldn't affect your rates as you didn't cause the damage (hitting a tree, for example, is also filed under comprehensive and obviously would affect your rates); however, as with any time you file under comprehensive, you have to pay your deductible.
By the way, that's an awesome shine/reflection on your car!
It's a shame some jerk hit it and (as is typical these days) left without leaving their information.

If there is no paint loss, you be be able to have the dent extracted. No repaints or bondo. You keep the original paint. With a body shop they will hammer out the dent , use filler and repaint. A dent extractor would slowly remove the dent, but it is based on the position of the dent. Plus, it's usually cheaper and is done same day. So, the insurance company would be happier too and won't impact your insurance as much, if any.

My insurance company says that comprehensive would be only if there is no other vehicle involved such as stolen, something falls on the vehicle or animal runs into the vehicle, etc.
We'll see how much the estimate comes out to.

Ouch! Sorry, yohan. Like others have said, I feel your pain.
I had something similar happen to me a few years back. The police wouldn't write a report because it was on private property. Of course, this was the New Orleans Police Department, so don't go by their example!
My insurance did pay for the damage, after my deductible.
I hope everything eventually works out for you. It's tough to see an Anthracite brother take such a bad hit!

Not so sure that it would come under your comprehensive coverage. It will most likely be a collision claim and cost you your deductible, but if coded properly as a hit and run, should not count against you as a chargeble loss. That is why it is important to have a police report filed.

it's treated like a hit & run or uninsured motorist. the only difference is you don't pay full deductible. it's a claim on you insurance company but you are not dinged for it on your rates.
Happened to my wife about 1 year ago on her Honda Pilot. They took out the driver's door and passenger door and part of the rear drivers quarter panel. don't tell me they didn't notice that happening. it was done in a parking garage at the hospital and the security cameras did not catch any of it.
report it to the garage owners/security. make a police report. then enjoy the hassles now of getting it repaired.
i hate people that do that!

people here, for one, don't know how to drive correctly and need to have their license taken away, and for two, don't have moral to leave a note of an apology and their contact info for what they did

A hit and run is carried under the provisions of your collision coverage. Comp. comes into play just like what you insurance carrier told you vehicle involved such as stolen, something falls on the vehicle or animal runs into the vehicle, etc.
In other words get ready to pay your collision deductable. If you file a police report it will not raise your premium come renewal of your policy!
I worked for Progressive & Statefarm in college........looks like I actually got something out of my Insurance Major afterall.

The body shop I went to, my familiy knows him, will replace the quarter panel instead of repairing it since it's a new car. I miss my car already =(

I definitely feel your pain. My wife's MINI CooperS was hit the exact way in the parking structure of her work by some jackass. We just notified our insurance and paid our $500 deductible for the repairs. But please do your research on what bodyshop you should take your baby to. We took it to Holmes Bodyshop here in california and it was a nightmare. The idiots there did the repair, but fucked up other areas of our MINI. Word of caution, STAY AWAY FROM HOLMES BODYSHOP.

This body shop I took mine is reputable ones and we know the owner pretty well. He always has these work-around with insurance company so we don't pay any deductibles. But this case will be different since my deductible is not our usual 500 but 1000. Anyways, replacing sounds more promising to me since I don't have any paint jobs to worry about.

Yohan,
I would keep quiet about the fenaggling to not pay the deductible. I think that is a form of insurance fraud since your body shop is working the $500 out of the insurance company in some way rather than charging you which your policy requires according to your contract.

Insurance fraud is a FELONY and punishable by up to 5 years in prison a a $50,000 fine.
Insurance fraud/scams such as you are describing are the reason why people like me pay increased insurance premiums year after year. Estimates are that insurance fraud alone contributes to an additional $200 per policy per person in the United States.
