How to tell if a bumper is the factory one:
1. It will have an HONDA logo stamped in black in on the rear of the bumper cover, FACTORY parts can only get this stamp
2. It will have factory CRAYON MARKS; the factory draws a line or puts a dot on factory parts, to see a good example of this, look at the top of the hood-strut bodies
3. The bolts, if the bolts were ever loosened or tightened, they will have little cuts and rough edges on them since non-factory tools grip and cut into the bolt.
my car was repaired by a factory authorized body shop. It's the shop the local acura dealer uses for it's cars. I also requested only genuine parts be used, so that probably explains why I still have factory stickers.

Ok Im not sure where I heard this but I inquired about this like 3 years ago and I was told that the Bumpers and the rest of the car are pained separately.

Meaning that they might use a batch of paint for the car but the bumpers might be a different batch from earlier that week or month.

anybody help me on this

^ makes complete sense. otherwise, if all the paint is from the same can, you would think you would get the same result, even if the surfaces are different.

Thats really weird. Even if they used OEM replacement parts the sticker will not show the cars VIN which is how you tell its original. An original sticker will have the cars VIN printed on it. On my older TL the front bumper was replaced with an OEM part and it did have a sticker but said something like HONDA DOT (or something similar). So if your VIN sticker actually has your VIN printed on it thats weird. Not sure how they did that then.

Right on. No need to have tape lines in the door jams and/or clear blends on the sail panels for a bumper refinish.

A good high end shop will do it right. They can perform a spray out test before they finish the bumper, if they even need to. The mismatch is so bad in some cases, a relatively close color match is a major improvement, and will look acceptable.

yeah, even tho my SLR takes decent and true to life pics (as far as color goes), it even looks worse in person...

now since ive had no experience with things like this, im not sure where to go to begin receiving quotes.

If i end up getting the aspec kit, is that whole rear bumper replaced?

the whole bumper is not replaced, the kit covers up everything below that crease on the bumper. Your best bet is to buy the kit, and take the kit to the bodyshop so the new bumper paint will match the kit and the rest of the car. Just know, it'll be about 400 dollars to get a good paint job with a good match.

What some shops will do is take and cut off the sticker + some area of the bumper from the orignal bumper, put some painters tape over it and then bondo it onto the new bumper (after cutting the right amount off). Then they prime and paint, then with a few "methods" they make the paint around it perfect and fade in.

This is true, the bumpers are painted separately. However there are a few things that can cause the mismatch. The bumpers do not seem to have any sort of primer on them (light colored like the body) so the paint can appear darker and thus cause the mismatch.

As well, FLEX agent is put into the paint so the bumper paint can flex and move around a little before cracking, this is known to alter the paint color slightly.

You could buy replacement VIN stickers before, and some other manuf. allow it still, for example BMW. Like I said before, its pretty easy to dice and glue the stickers onto the new parts.

get the bumper painted properly, don't get the doors done otherwise it'll hurt later on when you go to sell it as it may appear that it was in an accident, when it really wasn't.

Good luck taking it to the dealer for a fix. As of now they haven't accepted responsibility for this issue, and they won't normally warranty it.
FTW- sorry boss-

LOL I have seen Maaco jobs with paint overspray covering the headlights hahahaha. I saw another car that had paint overspray all over the drivers side window. That one was classic.

Get it done right. Afterall, that is why you would be having it resprayed in the first place right?

What about the fact that the bumper is plastic? I would imagine its a different process to paint the plastic bumper versus like a fender. Could that cause a color difference?

I had my heart set on a WDP type-s, I found one. However noticed that the bumpers had a slightly yellow hue to them. When I asked the salesmamn about it, he told me that it was common problem and the dealership would be able to paint them if I wanted for an extra fee. I wound up getting a CBP and there is no difference in color from the body to the bumpers. I just couldn't get past the different colors of the body and bumpers on the WDP.
