My adventures for searching for a '06/'07 TL

Hey world,
I've been searching for a 06/07 tl for about 2 months now. I've done sooooo much research and Im ready but its really becoming a headache looking for one. I have 11,500 to spend but alot of dealers wont move on the price or will move but dont have any kind of warranty. General prices in my area is 12-14k ( I live in philly ). General miles have been 100 to 115k miles which I guess is acceptable with my price point. I went to a dealer today and I liked the car but he wouldnt move even a dollar on the price, but then again its the beginning of the month so I know they would be playing hardball. I've been lurking this site and this is my first post.Hopefully I score one soon and be in the mix around here.

14k can land you in an 07 with over 100k miles, and what do you mean by warranty? you want the 12 months warranty or that 30 days warranty? Dealer are require to give you 30 days (90 days in some state) warranty as long as the car is less than 11 years old. Then do you have specific requirement such as MT and/or Navi? if not the base model without navi can go very cheap.

here is one locate near me and yes they does come with 60 days warranty as require by CT laws.

I wanted any kind of warranty, at least a week warranty lol, just long enough for me to get a 150pt inspection then take it back to get everything fixed. I want a auto/ navi.
I was not aware of the mandatory warranty. The first one I seen was a 07 tl with navi for 10k, it was at a buick/gmc dealer and they would not give me any kind of warranty, not even a 24hr warranty so that made me nervous.

as long as the car is less than 11 years old less than 120k miles and the price paid is more than $3000 they must give you 30 days warranty on mechanical and sound of the car, which mean primary on engine and transmission. Don't buy the car and bring it to the dealer since they won't fix anything unless some thing major goes wrong as I mentioned above, instead you can ask to put down $100 deposit and take the car to the nearest Honda/Acura dealer and ask them to perform PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) therefore you can get the dealer repair/ replace whatever worn or at least you can knock off couple hundred dollars off the price tag. If they refuse it then I would walk away from the lot. When I bought my TL at Honda dealer they gave me 60 days or 6000k miles which ever come first bumper to bumper warranty, yes bumper to bumper warranty.

I just picked up an 06 Base. Only 69k on the car and it was in near perfect shape. They wanted 17k but made the deal at 15,700. Here in Rochester all 06,07's even those with 100k+ are going for 13-14k.

Just curious why did you chose 06 and 07? Reason I ask is because 06 is the pre midcycle refresh. So since you don't care if you have the updated 07/08 TL or the older ones, why limit your search to only those two years, why not search for any 04-08 TL?

I chose 06/07 because I believe the 04 has the most tranny issues, almost every 05 has crazy amount of miles.. plus I really dont want to pay a note on a 05..yes one year makes a difference. I want a 07 but I understand my budget so I'll take a 06. 08's are so far outta my budget

I did plenty of research on the 3g TL before the purchase and the 06-07 have the best reviews. 04 had tranny issues. 05 had motor issues. Those two yrs had 5 stars with little to no common issues. Budget also played a big role in my purchase or I would have grabed a type s with nav and probably not black haha

You could try our Black Market and see if there are any that match your criteria.

https://acurazine.com/forums/marketplace/cars/search/

Also if the dealerships won't budge, maybe check out private listings?

What type of motor issues and I'm assuming it didn't matter if it was an auto or 6spd?

TIA

Motor issues? The 3.2 was pretty much unchanged from 04-08. I think an 06 AT is just as prone to failure out of the gate as an 04/05 AT is (maybe not the case with some of the early 04s). The 07/08 Autos have the RL trans, a modified version of it. They also got a bunch of other new things that the 04-06 don't have. If you can swing it get an 07/08.

my 05 6MT is perfectly fine. what is this motor issue you speak of? plenty of others on here with 04-06 TLs with mileage all over the place with few issues (at least none with the "motor").

New question. I recently came across a 08 for $13.5k and an 06 for 11.5k. It looks too good to be true and its from a mom and pop lot but has been there for some time. When I go to the website it says " where acura's are rebuilt" okay, so whats the deal. What do you guys think about possible wrecked acura's fixed or even possible flood vehicles?

If it all possible just search for 07 and 08s. The older ones are nice as well, but the 3G is getting up there in age and you'll want all the updated gadgets and looks you can get out of the 3G and those years are the ones. I personally think they did a nice job with the mid cycle refresh on the 3G. Improved auto trans in those years, and updated interior/exterior IMO make it a no brainer. I see base 07/08s go for below 15K often.

Im going to go check them out at least. Ran some of the vin numbers on carfax/flood.com and only one came up with flood record. Im guessing that most of them are salvaged vehicles. Pretty sure they are b.s. but still going to give them 15 minutes of my time. I really need to invest in carfax account..but $60 for a year that I might only use just this time in my search for the great tl...Im going to give it some thought

if you want those years at those prices, you'll have better luck with a private seller.

Update- I went to see the acura's at the "acura's are reborn place" I called the guy because nobody was there to show the cars or answer questions. So I look up the vins at carfax/flood which is free, so came up flood and some didnt. I was interested in a 06 tl/navi for 11.5. My concern was where was it hit at,the front or back. The back with no frame damage is a go, but front damage is a no,no. So I called the guy ( got the number from google) the car was hit on the passenger side and both doors and the rear quarter panel was replaced..and not only was dude a dick about it, he was really one word answering me the whole time. I figured he loved acura's so much that he wanted to keep them all to his self.I thanked him for his time.

Word of advice do not purchase a car that was in a major accident front or back. This can be determined by any bodyshop technician. Make sure there is no frame damage. I've heard some horror stories of people getting sick from flood damage vehicles. Tearing apart and cleaning/ changing the whole interior but still having presence of mold. BEAWARE there are many dirty used car dealers washing salvage/re-built titles from tranferring state-to-state to maintain loss records and clean carfaxes. You may consider 2004 and 2005 if your price range is $11,500 for a decent mileage and maintained TL.

Why Settle for less?, Get the Type S.... but id say just open up your search radius... say the perfect car is 51 miles away versus choosing just a 50 mile search radius choose 100... just my

Just talk to the dealer gain and he moved on the price.i wanted to spend 11.5 max, he wants 11.8..I really want to slap him because he is going to make a big deal over $300 and make it seem like he doing me a favor, in reality Im giving him 11.5k. Part of me doesn't wanna let this car get away over $300 but another part wants to play hardball

Don't flush the trans, do a 3x3 drain and fill and replace the pressure sensors. Congrats on the TL man, NBP w/ ebony interior is a classy choice, enjoy
