My 3x3

Ok so I know about all the other threads discussing the 3x3 drain, I just want to check with everyone before i do it being its kinda an expensive thing to fix if i mess it up. This is my plan..

Car has 126k
Bought new pressure sensors for 3rd and 4th gear.
Bought 6 quarts of redline type f
Bought 3 quarts of d4

1. F X F X F
2. F x F x d4
3. D4 x d4 x F

I don't want my trans to lunge just have a good solid shift.

looks good and don't forget the new washers.

I always had 3.5 quarts drain out. Refill back with the same amount that was drained out.

you'll want to put it on jack stands so that the car is level. that is important when draining out any kind of fluid.

^go to harbor freight and buy them. you'll use them a lot with maintenance on this car. shouldn't cost you more than $40

or call some friends and see if they can lend you theirs.

Go with what SharksBreath said. Get jack stands. NEVER....EVER work on under a car supported by just a jack. Always use jack stands.

I also have two jack stands.

When car was hot, I had only the front raised and 3.5 quarts came out.

Second time car was cold, with front raised. Very little amount of oil drained out. So i lowered the car and let the oil drain into the pan, with car on floor. Also got 3.5 quarts out.

I always have the car on the floor when refilling back with ATF.

I suggest you do it this way..

Drain ATF. Tighten drain bolt. Change pressure switches and refill back with ATF.

Agreed.

I would also suggest driving a couple days to a couple weeks between 1x3's. I did my three 1x3's over the space of a couple months.

Do you have to change the pressure sensors when you flush the AT fluid? I only have 48K miles right now and am thinking of replacing the AT fluid.

^you don't have to, no.

it's just good preventative maintenance. you're at 48k, i would do the switches.

i did mine at 52k and i noticed a difference in shift quality for sure.

when is it recommended to replace the pressure sensors? i havent found the information from other threads. i already feel my gears not shifting smoothly and was curious if it would "hurt" my vehicle since its only at 31k. i was gunna do em when i flush my ATF but thats 30k more miles -_-

^they say evey 3-4 years or 40-50k.

you can certainly do them now though.

have you ever done a 3x3? if so, what fluid? ...that could have more of an effect on your shifting.

^you can do the 3x3 all at the same time.

drain 3 qts
refiill 3 qts
drive around and cycle through all the gears including reverse for 5 mins or so
^do that 3 times to get your 3x3 complete.

here is the DIY for the pressure switches...

I read somewhere in this wonderful place that is AZ that you should replace your switches during your 3rd drain so your switches get hit with the cleanest fluid

thanks for the info, i mean my car is almost 4 years old, if not already 4. from the post above, would it be wiser to swap the switches at the 3rd drain?

no i haven't done a fluid flush yet and the highly doubt the previous owner did anything as well. i purchased the car with about 12.2k miles on her. only service i've done thus far would be oil changes.

If you want, you can also replace the ATF filter...it is located on top of the transmission (underneath the air intake/TB beside the ABS module).

Research it on AZINE if you are interested.

Yup, it was hard to find a royal purple filter for my TL-S.

Did you guys noticed that Royal Purple removed all related information on their filter for Acura from their website?

Not to thread jack but I am also doing a 3x3 with Switches and had a question in regards to how the 3x3 should be done. Should it be
FxFxF
FxFxD4
FxD4xD4 or

FxFxD4
FxFxD4
FxFxD4

A little confused on that.

Why mist F with D4?

Stick with F...

That's what I'm doing!

Love Redline Racing Oil F!
