Stalling happens less and less as you get used to driving the TL...

yet it still happens every so often resulting in the aforementioned feeling of embarrassment!

like previously stated, when driving an AT, driving a different MT, or not driving your MT TL after a while...it takes getting re-aquainted to know the right clutch/throttle points.

the only times I seem to stall is when im sitting at a red light staring at the hot chick next to me (while she is checking me out in my tl ) and I happen to take my foot off the clutch while still in gear

i agree with the pain in the ass of the nav having to reboot, it should stay on since the battery is still on.. maybe they will think of that in the 4g TL

You guys are the best. I'd rather see posts like the one above than this:

"Funny?" "How funny?" "I make you laugh?" "I'm here to amuse you?"

Signed: Future poster alias:"supershifter"

Hey , I had to stay on topic.

Can't handle a little humor thrown into the mix?

That was one of the most famous quotes from Goodfellas.

Just a handfull of times for me in almost 3 years.

Not counting the 2 or 3 times during the test drives. Felt like a dork, but assumed that the salesman knew that would be par for the course for a test drive.

I find myself almost never looking at the tach for any type of any up or down shifts anymore (including rev-matching), as it is all quite natural now.

I've already stalled mine once and I have less than 500KM on my new 08 TLS

It happened as I was adjusting into a parking space were another had parked over their line and the lot hadn't been plowed yet (about 10cm snow) and the car rocked a bit and I let off the gas

Hadn't had a MT in 4 yrs (had an 04 AT )

Loving the 6MT S Just don't mention to darksum that I ended up going for the ASM instead of the NBP

Cuz I've never driven a manual TL.

But my previous GC Impreza, ITR, and my current STI are all manual.
And I stalled the most in my GC, cuz that's my first car and first manual car, was just learning how to drive that. As soon as I got used to driving manual, I swapped the engine and tranny to ver6 STI EJ20T engine and the 04/05 STI 6spd tranny. the GC and the STI had the hardest clutch to drive cuz the clutch is crazy heavy and it's a PITA in stop and go traffic.

Usually when I stall, it's on uphills. I hate uphills. I don't wanna rev too high and burn my clutch but I sometimes don't get enough power that I need to go steep uphills.
I would say that the TL has got to be one of the easier cars to drive a stick. I drive an '05 TL 6spd and only stall it maybe less than 4x per month and it's my daily driver.

When I was first learning stick, I tried out an '04 G35 coupe. Man, that clutch was something else! It was so bad that I had to revert to an '05 Accord V6 6MT coupe, which was much more forgiving. The TL is like that.

If I'm careless or in a real rush, or super tired, sometimes I'll do something stupid like let off the clutch too soon or forget that I'm in gear, which is maybe 10% of the stalls. The majority of the stalls is due to going up hills which I absolutely hate. The ramp to the parking structure to my building's got to be at a 45-degree angle. Plus, there are these 2 super huge speed bumps on the small plateau at the gate after the ramp tops off. It's ridiculous - like someone's going to go like 30mph up a ramp?

When going over really big speed bumps in parking garages, etc., it pays to just hold in the clutch without braking. Otherwise, it's usually the damn hills.

Word to the wise: when signing a new lease/buying a condo, make sure you check out the parking structure lot and ramp, etc. BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. My friend just bought a $600K condo in a new building and got a pretty sweet deal. Except he got miffed when he saw what stall he was assigned. And he drives an E46 M3.

what a forgiving clutch
BMW's typically have a fairly heavy flywheel allowing effortless starting with little chance of stalling. With every BMW I have driven I was able to let out the clutch without needing any throttle at all. The TL has a much lighter flywheel and is much easier to stall.

i stall probably once every 3 months... it's the stop and go right before one of those speed bumps dips in streets and parking lots that get me too!!

i totally remember my first test drive and stalling twice just trying to get out of the cramped parking lot at Acura Sunnyvale in the Bay Area... made me feel so lame! haha.
