so for all of you MT owners here and BE HONEST, how often do you stall?

I've had my TL for almost 2 years now (in April) and this is my first MT car...I find myself stalling once every 6 months or so because I'm not paying attention?

I did it about an hour ago, I was letting the car roll into first and my foot slipped and the car stalled LOL

so how often do you guys stall? I know it happens to even the longest driving and best MT drivers/owners out there

The driver that never stalls a manual transmission car is applying too much throttle most of the time. Do not be concerned if you stall from time to time. A driver that properly balances clutch release with throttle input will occasionally error on both sides. It may be a little embarrassing to stall but it will happen. The other option is to over rev to insure it never happens and replace clutches more often. I have had cars with 178k and 223k without replacing the clutch but I still stall every few months.

I don't think I could really quantify it, but a guesstimate would be about once quarterly. I've been driving MT since 16 so I'm pretty used to it, even when not paying attention, it just becomes second nature. I would say it happens more so after driving an AT for extended period or driving another MT. If I drive my friends Jetta for a little bit when I get back into the TL I have to re adjust and that's when I'm at greatest risk of pulling a stupid stall.

Case and point, I was in Florida for a week and had a rental pontiac grand prix and when I came home and hopped in the TL I stalled it going from reverse to 1rst, just from being out of an MT.

I've stalled my '04 TL perhaps less than a dozen times since I bought it in July 2004, but I agree with the people here who have commented that you are bound to stall a MT car from time to time.. it's just part of the game. I vividly remember the first time I stalled my TL because it resulted in a flatlined outside temperature display that drained my battery during the course of the following week which was just before leaving for a vacation. That was a shocker.

If you stall your TL on occasion, I wouldn't worry about it just as long as it doesn't put you in a dangerous situation.

I stall my MT probably once a week. Always parking at work or home because I have to back up a hill to park both places and for some reason, I just don't seem to give her enough gas at first. It is embarrasing, but I still seem to do it...

I stall it a few times a year but I come very close to stalling very often. I'd rather stall it than slip it. I've always had an MT since I was 18 and I think the TL took the longest to get used to for starting in 1st.

I stalled my Prelude 2 days ago. I've got 155k on the clutch and counting, but I noticed after I stalled that the pedal feel was off and the clutch was grabbing just millimeters off the floor.

Apparently my slave cylinder was leaking and I had about a thimble full of fluid left and was running mostly off of air. Refilled with fluid and running fine (just a band aid until I replace the slave cylinder).

I typically stall my CL everytime I get back into it from the Lude, the clutches on those cars very different animals.

I've been driving manuals since way back, learned on my Dad's MGB. I have only put a few hundred miles (used 07 TL-S) on mine but have stalled it several times. I think one reason is that the engine is so quiet you can't really tell where the revs are. My car has a bad battery and haven't taken it back to the dealer so I carry a jumper box with me all the time. Anyway I was pulling into a touchless car wash and killed it just as the side blaster water was hitting the doors, of course I figured the door was going to close on the roof. Finally after about a minute the water turned off and I jumped out and hooked up the box with the help of the guy next in line. Started it and pulled forward to finish the wash. Last time I stalled it. ;^)

I stall every once in a while, but have been driving a manual for 20+ years and never replaced a clutch.

I stall every once in a while, but have been driving a manual for 15+ years and never replaced a clutch for wear (except my 1990 Nissan Stanza when the throw-out bearing broke). It did take me a good 20 days to get used to the '05 TL's shifting

I stall every once in a while, nothing in the last 4 months I think; it's kind of a touchy setup - I either give it too much gas and chirp a little or not enugh and it bogs down or stalls and I feel like a complete retard

My TL-S is my 4th MT and probably the 3rd hardest to stall. I've had it for about 2 months now and only stalled it once, as you said, not paying attention and then tried to rush it at a green light.

Of all my past MT vehicles, the best one so far has been my '03 BMW Z4. That car had an amazing clutch and transmission and I think I only stalled it once in the 39 months that I had it. Even taught my wife to drive MT and she too only stalled it once, while in training.

I've had mine for 2.5 weeks and haven't stalled yet, but it does seem to be the trickiest manual I've driven in awhile, although I've been doing AT's for the last seven years so maybe I'm rusty. I learned to drive on an MT the day I turned 16, in a Mitsubishi Starion, then my first car was a 4spd Escort.

I stall every few months from maybe awkward parking positions or deep snow. I have driven over 15 MT cars and the TL is by far the most touchy car i have driven. The easiest was my 92 Legend coupe..it was like a diesel, really hard to stall.

Well, the TL was the hardest for a newer car..but very easy compared to a classic where you need a lead foot to push the clutch in.

when I drove a 69 Camaro 4spd or a 63 chevy flat bed..it was a different world.

my first manual car was a civic, second was a 350z, sadly got the type s in auto since they didnt have any in stock anytime soon, long story short when I got back into my old civic, I stalled so bad I laughed my ass off (act street disc in it, so it was jus funny), I've never driven a manual tl, but I believe some guys had said that it rolls in gear at 5mph, my z used to do that, it would roll at 9mph without having to hit the gas and would not stall, is this the same with all years since o4?

I've been driving manual for close to 20 years myself and I would have to say that the 08 TL-s is one of the easiest cars. The clutch is almost to soft for my liking but this is coming from someone that had a VW VR6 Passt with a 6 puck non-sprung race clutch with a clutch masters pressure plate. Between the super stiffness of it and pretty much lack of any kinda slipping of it i would stall it maybe like once a month. as for my tl-s i would say once or maybe twice since i've owned it. But i did stall the g37 coupe when i got it back to the dealer backing it to the parking spot when i was don't with the test drive

yeah I leared how to drive MT on a 05' 330ci and that damn car would never stall!!!!!!!

I don't really keep track, but I do stall every now and then. No pattern or reason, it just happens.

Is this only related to MT TL?
Cuz I've never driven a manual TL.

But my previous GC Impreza, ITR, and my current STI are all manual.
And I stalled the most in my GC, cuz that's my first car and first manual car, was just learning how to drive that. As soon as I got used to driving manual, I swapped the engine and tranny to ver6 STI EJ20T engine and the 04/05 STI 6spd tranny. the GC and the STI had the hardest clutch to drive cuz the clutch is crazy heavy and it's a PITA in stop and go traffic.

Usually when I stall, it's on uphills. I hate uphills. I don't wanna rev too high and burn my clutch but I sometimes don't get enough power that I need to go steep uphills.

I stall it about once every couple of months or so.

What I'd like to see is the Nav programmed to not go through whole startup screen delay and go right back to where it was if the engine is restarted within a few seconds after being shut off.

i rarely stall anymore, i can say on average before it was like less than 10 times a year, but now it's more like 0...mabe 1 or 2 but i don't recall stalling in the past 6+ months...unless on purpose/fooling around

tl is actually a hard car to drive smoothly/not stall...i drove a 91 accord and a 04 sentra, and their clutches felt like they were elastic...you have to actually be trying to stall them...the tl has a grippy clutch, and i guess an engine that's not very forgiving at all...it just wants to shut off at low rpm.

i also hate the knocking sound the tl makes when you stall it or get to really low rpm...it's a bad knock you feel like the engine hit something within itself....and then when you start it back up it knocks bad while you are cranking it after a stall...makes me think it's definatly not healthy for it...kind of why i take off with a bit more throttle and try to never let the enigne go below 1000 rpm or so.

I have NEVER stalled my TL. But then, I've only had it like 48 hours. I'm sure there will be a stall every now and then. Just part of driving a MT.

Did not stall before I fully used my TL....now it happens once a month or so in some busy moments!

Took me around 2 mouths to get used to the clutch/1st, NOW every single person who sit in the back didnt even notice it was a standard car until they get out and see the shifter.

Girls always compare my standard skills with there friends...lol I always respond kindly: "This is because I don't drive a civic babe."

I stalled my '05 6MT twice in 60k miles, before I traded it for my '07 TL-S 5A/T.
Less stress for sure
