Motor Mount Replacement

Hey Guys,
i drive a 3g 05 TL and 2 of my motor mounts are bad. Would it be smarter to replace all of them at the same time, or just the ones that are broken. Also, would i be better off purchasing aftermarket mounts or oem mounts?
Thanks

If I break another side mount, I'm going with urethane even if it does make my car vibrate a bit at idle.

Not sure if non-urethane aftermarket mounts are any better than factory but they'd probably be cheaper.

I'd replace them all. I would check transmission mounts also.

I have tried to read all of the posts about motor mounts, so that I can make the correct purchase. I had no idea there were so many, and so many options to replace them with!

* I have a 2003 CL Type-S Anthracite Grey - auto unfortunately. I could not find a single manual transmission in the US that was not black or red at the time. I will never have another black car again. I like my car to be clean for more than 3 hours!

* Last year the transmission started slipping at a little over 100k. I had my transmission rebuilt with a 3 year warranty-so far so good.

* The shop I first took it to said I also needed motor mounts, but I forgot which ones they said I needed. They did say that it was something that could be done later.

* I am going to get my 105k service this week, now that I have 11 years and 107k miles on my car- a little late due to lack of money. So I am perusing the Rock Auto website to purchase all of my parts.

* When I put my transmission in reverse there is a clunk. Doesn't that mean I need the transmission mounts, not the motor mounts? Sometimes it idles rough, but that could be the timing as well, so that may be alleviated by adjusting the valves with the 105k service.

* I don't think I can afford to buy all of them, so should I just get the transmission mounts and do the others later? I know they are done from underneath the car, so there isn't an issue of going deep in to the motor.

Any help is greatly appreciated-Thanks!

I also forgot to add that I live in San Jose CA I won't take my car to the dealer, so if anyone knows of a great Acura/Honda independent shop let me know!

My 04 TL does this clunk occasionally when I put in reverse. I thought it was a normal tranny noise, as it doesn't happen often. Can anyone shed light on this?

I'm assuming your talking about the reverse issue? Now that I think about it, it might be normal since there's weight on the tranny while on a incline/decline when you put it into reverse...??? Could be wrong, just a thought...

This might help some of you.. my driveway has somewhat of an incline...when I would wash my car and put in the garage..I would hear a clunk when I take it out of Park... so what I've been doing is right before you turn your car off..set it to neutral, pull up the E-brake, slowly let your foot of the brake pedal until the car stops, then put the car in Park... that way there will be no stress on the tranny. Lets face it..it just a habit for us to put the car in park & pull the E. Once your let your foot of the brake your feel the car move a bit. Well its because once you let your foot off the brake, the E-brake catches it and also will put stress on the tranny when it was already in Park. Hope this helps..

This.

Go aftermarket, I recommend xlr8 mounts, 62 durometer for oem feel and 75 for stiffer feel / handle more abuse.

You should replace them all. If one is bad the other two aren't far behind typically. And if you're going to replace I recommend doing so with our XLR8 mounts since they're more durable.

That's $300 for all 4 (Including tranny mount)?

I have the 62A XLR8 motor mounts in the box still, need to get off my lazy arse and install them.

Does anyone know which mount is which? It didn't come with instructions or labels showing me which mount is front, side, or rear.

the side is obvious.

since there are no markings and the same shape, they are interchangeable from front and back.
but you do need to know which way the floating mount faces, because it can only go one way on the car.
i had trouble with my rear mount, then realized i installed the floating piece wrong. flipped it and it bolted right up

These are just engine mounts, not transmission mounts.

Front and rear are the same. Side is different.

XLR8 Engine Mounts - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!!

So are the mounts for manual and auto the same? I looked at the link but there were no selections for trans options on 2005 TL. I have a 6 MT TL.

I just had the transmission rebuilt on my 2007 Type-S and the shop said they also replaced one bad mount. I'm guessing it's a motor mount as they only charged $150? Mine clunks as well, but not just reverse, when also putting in to D. This was happening before the transmission went.

All are the same except for the front mount which costs about 2½ times more.
