Moleskin or Raw?

For those of you who have tinted their windows. Moleskin or raw?

Upon reading the subject (and having no prior experience with tiniting windows) I had a disgusting image in my mind about what this topic was going to be about... I thought maybe it was some coating you would put on your seat, using either the cured skin of a mole or a raw one

I've had my window's tinted for a month now w/o the moleskin & no scratches yet, I've rolled my driver's side window up & down many, many times.

I didn't know about the moleskin until two weeks after I got the tint or I would have asked the installer for a quote b4 installation.

I read that many people w/o moleskin have scratches & many don't.

I don't see how it could hurt anything if you have it installed, for a reasonable price.

U are talking about felt, right?

Fix for scratched tint

My dealer wouldn't install that for me, but it seems helpful.

I am referring to the felt. I am going to tint my windows, and I am trying to decide what the majority of forum members are doing. My tint shop will not remove the door panels. I would feel more comfortable if I removed them myself anyway. I just want to know if it's worth the trouble.

My dealer said it takes at least half day to complete the whole thing. They may remvoe panels, but won't install the felt between tint and door. $310, 35%.

Thanks. Donte99TL.

My tint guy did my car in 3 hours and that's with removing the door panels. He is the best tint guy I have ever been to and I have been through a lot. If I were you I would look for some one who will do the felt for you just to be on the safe side..

My tint shop automatically put felt in. They said the door panels have to be removed to properly cover all the glass. So far no problems. Better to go with someone who has done 2004 TL's so you don't have any problems imo. My dealer did 40 TL's before mine so I wasn't too worried, besides its fully warranted.

My tint shop works for all the dealers on Auto Row. He says that the moleskin/felt will not solve the problem, and may make it worse. It seems logical to me that the felt will "hold" grit particles and allow them to rub your window even longer.

As an engineer, If I were worried about this, I would put some small patches of the felt at the ends and center of the window to hold the wiper away from the glass, limiting contact with the tint.

I don't have the felt - time will tell.
