Just wanted to share my new shift knob to match the aspec steering wheel. The blue is not exactly the same but close enough to where it looks good and complements each other. Its the Combat Evo shift knob. I bought the carbon fiber and the blue and modded them:

 

Pretty dayum clean!

i have a 2007 type s shift knob for sell pm me if you need one.it's like new never used but opened.

 

Yeah I had to buy two. Pricey but I think its worth it for the look.

That looks cool !! Found them both online - how did you take them apart? Was it tough? Is the CF glued back on or is it just snap on snap off.....

 

Not that tough just be careful and slow. The top comes off by loosening the screw found in the shaft opening. After that I carefully pried it up and away being careful not to damage the surrounding leather. Then I put the new one on and superglued it just for good measure. The hardest part was installing it straight!

 

Looks really sharp bud - this might just force me to get that wheel!!! I kep reading good things about it - being thicker than stock, feeling a lot better than stock too. Plus I have the quartz interior so I think the black & gray combo on that Aspec wheel will look great in my interior

 

Nice, clean install. Looks good with the steering wheel. You'er car is sick!

I've got the same knob on my car, that was the first thing I replaced as soon as I bought the car! You've got good taste! It makes playing with the triptronic more fun!!

Is the A-spec steering wheel thicker than the normal one?

 

Its thicker and has a better overall feel! I will NEVER go back to the stock steering wheel.

I have the same shift knob, however mine keeps twisting around and around. What did you do to make it stay in place and not move?

Longer screws and Loctite...

 

I dont get how you can screw it onto the metal shaft. As our car's shaft has a really small diameter. It will fit the smallest of the rubber caps tho, however the screws that came with the knob just wont cut it. I need them to be at least 3 times longer to merely *touch the shaft.

my question is: are we supposed to screw against the rubber cap? or the shaft? if its the shaft (i assume) then where can I find such screws that will be long enough?

 

jmkiang: just read your post about using Home Depot screws, howd those work for ya?

I had to put my OEM shift knob after learning that the MOMO screws wont fit our shaft

 

Works really well so far. Using the provided "longer" screws, my knob stayed tight for maybe 1-2 days...

I got the longer screws from Home Depot and blue Loctite... Its been... maybe a week or two and its still secure.

Easy... cheap... its a no-brainer to go this route

 

I just looked at the bag of the "longer" ones that came with the momo, scratching my head thinking these are just mere 2mm longer lol

I got my Momo shifter knob via Ebay-$88 as well.


I used the screws provided with the shift knob. You just need to position the knob evenly around the post and screw the provided screws in evenly against the post. I have not had any problems with mine slipping at all.

 

That blue thread looks super nice. I realize this is an old thread but I had to say it.




I just installed that same shift knob as Steven Bell and even though it is positioned and straight on the lever, it just twists round and round. My knob came with 3 screws, no longer ones. Just the 3 stubby little shits. Some other threads on the board here have said buy longer screws at home depot and use locktite. Could someone please tell me what size screws those are and how to use the locktite? Do you spread it on the screws and screw them in or did you put it on the level itself and basically glue this knob on there?

Is there any other fix for the knob twisting around? Build up the shaft with some tape or rubber or something? Does that work?

Bueller, send a PM to Bearcat94. I think he had a solution to this situation. He also has a Momo shifter (like mine). And I think he encountered a similar scenario.

Don't need new screws. I had the same problem.

Take the shift knob off. Wrap your shift lever with a few wraps of masking tape. Measure it so that it won't show below the shifter.

Now attach your shift knob with the supplied set screws and a dab of blue Locktite.


I had nothing but trouble with the shift knob not being centered, coming loose randomly, etc. After I did this: problem free for more than 2 years.
