Mobil 1 0W-20 (Advanced Fuel Economy) anybody?
Has anybody tried out the new Advanced protection oil from Mobil 1? I've been using the Mobil 5W-20 and I guess this just came out. Supposedly gets better gas mileage. I figured I might as well give it a try. The best part is, I picked up 5 quarts and a Mobil 1 filter for a little over 26 bucks plus tax.
whoops. I meant Advanced Fuel Economy!

Keith, will sving the 4 dollars make up the difference for the gas milage you would be saving? =P
Maybe it'll save you more gas in 3,000-5,000 miles than 4 dollars, one time fee.

Keith,
I picked up the 0W-20 in Augusta, GA. Not sure if they have the same deal going on up in Atlanta. I would have stocked up but the Advance auto parts i went to only had one box of six. I feel you on the 5 qt jug. I was doing the same thing, till I went to visit my folks this past weekend. Tomorrow, I'm going to check Advance Auto here in SC and see if they are doing the same deal.

i love it!!! the throttle feels more responsive.....the engine feels like it can take a pounding and thats what worries me....uuhhh and economical...no same gas consumption if u ask me. next oil change im gonna do 10w30 to see if the tick goes away.

you guys crack me up- the first number is the viscosity- flowabilty measured at 32 degrees F, for dead cold starts- that allows instant flow of oil to the important parts
the hot number of 20 or 30 is the actual viscosity at 200 degrees oil temp- normal oil temp when running
the switch from 30 to 20 with the gen3 cars was to fool the CAFE standards, as 20 was determined to be the minimum weight you can run and not destroy the engine parts smashing together at very hi speeds.
It may get .5 mpg better over 30weight, but not the best thing going for many reasons IMO
Do some research before jumping on the oil weight bandwagon
Use a good engine oil cleaner before change and feel better running too
Use engine cleaning in the gas and intake manifold for max increase
Whatever oil you choose may have more cleaners in it- that makes it feel like the engine runs better
That valves clicking on start up may mean they liked the 5 or 10 w over 0

The gas saving between 5w20, 5w30, 0w20, 0w30 would only show a difference on a dyno. Different drivers, maintence, tires, road conditions, weather, wind, speeds all play a role in gas mileage in REAL TIME conditions.
I like the 0w because it's instant start up protection where most wear occours. I like 30 for operating temps because in the spring/summer here in NY the temps/humidity can be brutal and I'd rather have a lil extra protection over the 20.
In the winter I'd want the thinner 20, so base it off of that. Temp is the key factor in deciding oil. You can't go wrong with either of the above listed oils for the 2nd gen TL assuming you have an engine that is in good condition.
If the engine is making abnormal noises, then take it to a Honda/Acura specialist, or the dealership and find out what is wrong before you go experimenting with different oils.

I can see some logic points in this thread and som e not!
do not use 10w- our engines like 5 or 0 for the far north guys
30 is good for the warm number- I find it funny that some think the engine operating temp drops in winter- should be right in the middle of the guage like always-
