Mismatching tires

If I were to run 225/50 up front and 245/45 in the rears is there any issues with running that?

you'll be fine as the 225/50 will be 0.69% larger which is almost negligible. Once you get near 3% that's a no go.

Why would you want such skinny tires up front?

Guessing he/she has some sort of deal to be had.

OP keep in mind what this means for rotation of said tires and moving differing profiles from front to back.

Yes I have a deal I can grab for 2 225/50’s.Thing is I have 245/45 currently which are worn. Not bald but used nonetheless. So I’m concerned if I put the new 225/50 with the worn 245/45 is that enough of a difference to cause issues.

I've never understood "deals" on used tires, I mean, for a little over $400 you can put a nice set of General G-MAX AS-05 tires on your car and only need to pay for the mount and balance once in roughly 40,000 miles; will you get even half that from the "deal" tires?

Regardless of whether it's a good idea I would think you want the wider tires up front at least

I’m with horseshoez. I don’t understand the desire, unless it’s a need item. Save up for some decent tires, they’re the only thing connecting you to the road.

If it is a need, try to find same size as you currently have used.

I've been able to get 275/30/21's for $20 before so you never know! They were ventus V12's that I traded in for Conti DW's. I agree with not getting bad tires, but sometimes deals can be had on used, good brand tires. Would I pay $80 for a linglong that's new or $80 for a Michelin that's used and has 50% life left?

The Mich. is the obvious answer to me. 1 foot can be a huge difference; the difference between a kid being alive and not during a panic stop. That's why best tires and brakes are what I point folks towards.

I'm with horseshoez on the generals. Be very careful about good new tires on the front and old on the back because in a wet/hydroplane situation the front will maintain grip while the back slides, ask me how I know. Also check date codes depending on the situation.

Just spring for a matching set. As stated $400 can get you decent tires, plus treads affect a way tires run on the road. Different treads may be counterintuitive and could possibly cause issues in less than desirable driving conditions.
