mlody, I'm in the same boat as you are...27 miles (one way), then add on the couple of miles I drive when I go to lunch. I'd say I average 60 miles round trip (which takes about an hour each way in Chicago traffic ). I'm looking to buy a place closer to work in the next 3 years or so...

To the OP, I drive roughly 1,500 per month (including work & personal - right now I'm at 596 miles - just got the car )...so I'd also put you in the 'average' category at 1,000 miles per month. I think I've seen this defined before as 10k - 12k miles per year.

Is this a typo or is this accurate? Did I read this correctly? You only have 460 miles on your car after almost a year (to the date almost)?

I think this is open to interpretation...I still think it's 12,000. But, I've seen people who say 15,000.

I went to Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com) and picked an '04 TL for the hell of it, and it says, "*Typical mileage for this vehicle is 53000". This is open to interpretation as to how many miles per year this is alotting. For example, if it was bought summer of '03, then technically it's 4 years old and they're allowing 13,250 per year.

Ok, so out of curiosity, I tried an '07 TL and it says, "*Typical mileage for this vehicle is 12000." So, I would say a more definite answer is 12,000 miles per year. The previous example I would guess accounts for additional personal mileage (such as road trips, etc).

2006 TL I just hit 18k last week and I bought the car in October of 2006 for my birthday. Long commutes for work plus a few road trips to SoCal and Vegas add up quickly.
