MID question...
MID question...
I was just wondering whether the computer takes weather conditions into consideration when it calculates how much oil life you have left. Living in Texas, I would expect to need an oil change much sooner than someone who lives in the northeast for example.
So...does it aldready take those factors into consideration or should I just get my oil changes done more frequently than the MID recommends?

But its 25-30 bux to change the oil at the dealership. I change my oil around the 60-50% mark. But thats just me.

But someone who drives in Texas will have to get their oil change done more often than someone who drives the same way in...New York, or wherever the weather conditions are supposedly good for cars. So I was just wondering whether that was taken into consideration. I guess i'll just play it by ear and see how it goes. The car only has 800 miles on it right now...so I've got a while to think about it.
Check the 3G Garage sticky thread for this topic. Much had been written and there's a great deal of semi-pro and pro advice in there.
I did the first oil change at 3,000 miles and used Havoline 5W-20 as it most closely duplicates the Acura break-in oil with its high molybdenum content. I wish I had done it at 2,000 miles to get out whatever assembly debris might be in the engine.
Since then, I follow the MID or every six months, whichever comes first as I am a very low mileage driver. I am using Mobil 1 synthetic and I send my used oil to the lab for analysis every time I change it.

When you get there, hit CTRL + F, then look for "oil". Here is a good one, and there are many more.

The oil life indicator takes into account infrequent trips and low mileage and will advise when an oil change is needed based on such factors as driving and conditions, time and miles driven and outside temperatures.
