MID "Miles To Empty" Question
This is my fourth vehicle that has had an info display that showed "miles to empty". In the previous 3 vehicles, if you had the display on miles to empty when you turned it off, miles to empty would display when you restarted the car. How do you get the TL to display miles to empty when you start up? On startup, I get the trip computer menu and have to select miles to empty.
Please don't tell me how worthless the miles to empty function is - leave that for another thread.
I would welcome a RTFM reprimand, because if it's in there - I missed it.

Your right, when in the Trip Computer mode and you turn the key off, it will only return to the menu when re-started... Not sure why that is.
You won't get any RTFM from me... I've read it numerous times and still forget
I had my TL for 2 months and was ticked when I "thought" the mirrors weren't heated... Took someone mentioning the small "round" button before I remembered...
I would MUCH prefer a 'gallons used' display than 'miles to empty', it can only guess how far you might go based on the mileage you got over the last 50/100 miles (not sure how far back it goes to project your range), whereas you can easily estimate how far you can go on the remaining fuel based on the type of driving you will be doing, city/highway.
The computer is obviously capturing gallons used in order to project miles to empty, not sure why that's not displayed too, obviously lots of room on the 'miles to empty' screen.
Acura could have taken a lesson from the trip computer in our '98 Olds Silouette van.

So far I believe that "Miles to Empty" is calculated by the short distance instead of last 50/100 miles.
If you try to fill up your tank in these two situations, after driving on the highway 30 miles and in the city 30 miles, you will find your "Miles to Empty" displaying the different miles info.
In Navi Diagnosis Mode, you could see your Navi displaying a few items about how many Gallons left, MPG info, and mileage info.
Sampled FL (gal), Measured RF (gal), Refuel FL (gal), Calculated RF 9 (gal), RAFE (MGP), Display Range (miles), Calculated Range (miles).
I agree, if MID can display Gallons info, this would be great.

If they won't tell you about the 50 "extra" miles in reserve, they would probably leave out 2 gallons in reserve.
Just tell us the facts and if we don't pay attention, we run out of gas!
Do you guys think that an adjustment to the sending unit (by Acura) would solve this or would it take more than that?

So far I think 04TL has the quite accurate gauge, the precise information display could make ppl less confused.
But most of ppl have complained these two early-warning indicators (Low Fuel Warning Light ON=3.6-3.8 gallons left ; Miles to Empty 0=about 2 gallon left) are really annoying.
I'm fine with them...

I suspect you're correct, this is calculated from an alogorithm using expected MPG at a given avg speed for a measured distance.
