Metallic tinted windows and navi

I read it in the manual stating that I shouldn't use metallic windows tint on the rear window as it might block the GPS signal. Has anyone with navi experience this problem? I was thinking about getting my windows tinted with metallic film. Any info would be appreciate it. Thanks.

It's possible. If the GPS antenna is part of the wire grid on the back window, you may have problems with this - especially if your window film has a low resistance (ohms/square inch). Even though the antenna elements physically are above the film, having a thin sheet of metal underneath it could have an effect.

Huper Optik makes great tint that will not interfear with the navigation system. I have it installed in my car and have no problem.

Llumar titanium works fine. The metal doesn't interact. Before and after pics in my gallery.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I checked your gallery and noticed that you have special dignosis screen on your navi. I'm assuming that's PC-Card upgrade. Where did you get that? It looks really nice. Thanks.

P.S. I especially liked the picture of mud guards at work

Hold Navi Map+Menu+Cancel for a few seconds, the screen will pop up.

Question to you...

I'm also confused to that message about the tint windows. Where is exactly the GPS antenna? Thanks.

Navi not effected by my Llumar Stealth metallic. I think our GPS antennas are located in the "nub" above the window anyway, right?

Well, that "nub" is for XM radio. According to the manual, GPS antenna is located under the rear panel. I'm not sure if they're referring to the window, but it sounds as though it's located somewhere where subwuffer is. Don't quote me on this, I'm not sure.

Manual states that metallic tint might weaken or block GPS signal. I just wanted to be sure. Thanks all for helpful info.!

I had the dark Limo shade installed on the rear windows and the GPS would lose sats. Installed a lighter shade and the GPS works perfect.
