Me vs. IS350

Two nights ago my buddy with an IS350 challenged me. I said okay, even though I thought I would lose. We ran three times.

The first run he got a better start and I didnt catch up until the end of 2nd and I slowly,I mean slowly was able to pull about a 1/2 a car til about 130.

The second we were dead even from the start and I slowly pulled 1 1/2 cars by 125.

On the third run I was able to pull about 1 car length by 110.

i was surprised, I just had the E-Shift downpipes installed and this is where I was able to tell the difference. My car just seemed to be stronger than his in every gear but not by much. They were all great races and everyone that was watching could not beleive the out come. They all thought i was going to lose.

Did he have his car in ect power mode? If not, that's why. If he did, there is no reason for him to lose to the TL.

With all his mods I don't see why he shouldn't lose to the TL, even with his mods all the races were close. Slap the supercharger on there and really smoke him..Nice Kill

I would assume so. He was talking alot of crap and I shut his mouth pretty quick. He is really into cars so i would assume he knows enough to hit the switch. Hey man, I am as suprised as you are but if you look at the numbers for C&d they ran a 13.7 at 104 and someone else I forget ran a 14.2 . I was in the 13's before the down pipes and know I am well into them considering my power increase. I think even if he didnt have it on, I would at least be dead even with him, but I think he did cause he admitted fairly that i beat him. all i have to say is once he mods that thing, it will be nasty. Those things are really peppy.

Cool!! It looks like a couple of the Altima SE-R dudes on Altimas.net will be joining us as well.

This is definitely shaping up to be a GREAT J32A vs VQ35DE showdown. ....should be a LOTS of fun.

So far it looks like I'm going down to E-town with you guys. As far as the thread, blktl can drive, I know from experience. When we raced back then he just had intake and exhaust compared to my intake and headers, and as some of you may remember he did beat on all 3 runs(50-115ish he had 1.25-1.5 cars on me). Last year with the same set-up I ran a 14.28@98mph. blktl1 with his CURRENT setup definitly has 13.6@102-103mph, of course this if he can pull a pretty good 60'. So edging out an IS350 is very possible for a nicely modded, well driven 6-spd.

That was pretty fun right lol, anyway I still have my cattman b-pipe to install(the old one was rusting out, so they sent me a new one) and then I definitely have to get it tuned. Hopefully I should be in the 235-240 whp range then, still will fall plenty short of you 260whp.

Wow, impressive dyno. Can you post a scan of it for the skeptics?

My brother's modded TL-S put down 240~ before a couple of minor mods. 260+ is really impressive, though.

Sounds like blktl1's TL could probably run respectably against an E46 M3.

Sheer, do you have a 6MT 5.5G?? Did you consider a Technosquare ECU or an SAFCII with some dynotuning??

I havent run an M3 since I only had my intake and exhaust. It wasnt that far off then. i would love to see how I would do now. i dont think I would win against a well driven one but I wouldnt get raped either.

Nicely done beating out a IS350. I thought it can never be done with only bolt on parts for our car but I guess I am wrong. Haha!! Are you running 5AT or 6SPD?? 6Spd I can imagine lots of potential but a 5AT will be harder to achieve beating out a IS350.

Say you were saying E-Shift downpipe?? What is that if you don't mind explaining to me. Is that like a high flow cat or no cat at all??? Thanks and those dyno#'s are very impressive!! Keep up the good work on your TL.

The Eshift down pipe is basically 3 high flow cats with a better collector off of the block. This has made very siginificant gains and has shown very good potential.

How do you manage the torque steer with so much power to the front wheels?
You must have really hard time launching the car with VSA off! My former 2005 TL was really bad at that! (even my wife's 2006 doesn't do better).

I am some what used to any torque steer. I had a turbo charged rsx which was real bad so this feels like nothing to me. i have no problem launching this car what so ever!

Nah, unfortunately I have the autotragic(dealer didn't have a 6-spd in stock at the time, settled for an auto), my 98 Maxima was a 5-spd. I'm looking around for an SAFCII, this will be my next and probably last performance mod, don't want to dump more money since I will be upgrading to hopefully an E46 M3 or C32 AMG once I'm done with school.

You guys think TL's have bad torque steer, hop in my Maxima then you'll see what horrible torque steer is.

I think in the 1/4 mile blktl1 will hang in pretty well with a stock M3, but once you pass triple digits, thats when the gearing of the M3 takes over, and starts pulling all the way up to its limited speed of 155! Even my bro's 540i 6-spd, it's not overly impressive from like 0-100, still plenty quick. But 100-150 it just goes and goes effortlessly. Not suprising since these cars are engineered for the autobahn.

Was that against a 6MT or SMG?

Nice kill, btw. I can't believe the amount of smack the Lexus drivers have toward Acuras.

4AT??? Then I'm pretty impressed at how well you did against blktl1. The AT in my 02 Maxima seems to be a MAJOR impedement to the power delivery in my VQ35.

You have to remember at the time I raced blktl1 he had only the intake and exhaust. If we would race TODAY I'm sure he'd put another 1.5 car lead on me. I agree with you, our 4At's seem to sap a sh!t load of potential power. hopefully with the addition of an SAFC I will be able to squeeze out an additional 12-15whp. I believe Intake, Headers, b-pipe, SAFCII tune is good for 235-240 whp on our 4AT 02-03 Maxima's.

i dunno i need time to do it. I have everything but i guess it really isnt that important to me anymore. the car is already pretty quick. i guess i am waiting for nicer weather cause this snow and cold weather is not a time to work on the car.

That's nice, but street races don't mean jack.
If you can ran faster than 13.7@100mph that is what IS350 stock run, than I'll believe you did kill him . I'm not saying it never happend but lots of people making ridiculous conclusion after street race, that why the only way to know for sure is to go to the track. You can use the precise timing equipment to really judge which car is truly faster, and how well the driver was really doing.

Try to invite him on the track and run him. And to compare to M3 is just ridiculous unless you supercharged.

Agreed! You are absolutely correct. I am a regular track goer and trust me I cant run what an M3 is running but I am not going to get my doors blown off. i think they meant that I can hang but not win!

You see, standing 1/4 E46 M3 traps at 106mph stock, so running from the roll it's going to be extremely fast. Your might hang only from the roll but still need more power. Yet, put light weight 17" rims and sticky tires to observe faster acceceration both from dig and roll (your 19" are too heavy).

BTW, IS350 with just and exhaust and 80lbs weight reduction runs 13.3@104mph. Imagine what it will do with i/h/e/tuning.
