me vs. 03-04 G35 5AT w/intake
There is this young kid(early 20's) that has a silver G35 5AT with just an intake and some big chrome 19's on his car. He thinks he is king shit. I pulled up next to him the other day at a convenience store and he kinda looked at my car and shook his head a little(cocky fucker). He has no idea my car is modded and no one can tell just by looking at it from the outside. I will be getting a custom magnaflow catback next Tuesday and once I get that installed my car won't be as much of a sleeper because of the deep tone. I want to race this kid and shut him up, but I am not sure I can take him. Everyone says G's are very fast, but this is the 260hp 5AT version with just an intake. I can pull on stock TL-S pretty well and I am confident I could beat one with just an intake. What do you think my chances are?

seriously 19"ers plus them being chrome will add a ton of weight.. I bet he doesn't get a legnth and a half on the takeoff, from then you should be able to reel him in..
Do it already...
Plus his inflated head should add some weight!!

Sedan or coupe because I'm racing a stock G35C 5AT?
P.S. we are def going from a roll. Did you go from a roll or a dig?

.. The G35 SEDAN and the TL-S are neak and neak, actually the stats show the TL-S getting a car length in the 1/4 (0.1 sec in the quarter mile = 1 car length)
The G35 coupe will walk a TL-S comfortably, six lengths in the quarter is not a "driver's race", its a comfortable win. Now when the TL-S get's modded the situation changes.. the TL-S with some bolt-ons can beat a G35 coupe.. which bolt-ons will do it? is the $1000 question.. And Once the coupe starts modding the gap between the two cars enlarges.. Do you seriously think Acura's 02 luxury sedan with 265hp is going to beat Infiniti's 03 Sports car equipped with a 280hp and 270torque? Think about it logically...
Now the unfortunate part is that they didn't redesign a CL to go alone with the new TL, like Infiniti has for the G35.. The coupe is an entirely different design, with the same engine, and it outperforms the sedan by a long shot.. The only thing that would give a CL-S an advantage over the TL-S would be the transmission.. The style change isn't drastic enough to impact the speed of the car... the auto CL-S and TL-S hit the same numbers....

The coupes always had 280. The sedans got an increase from 260 to 280 from the 2004 to 2005 models for 5AT.
The 2005 6MT have 298HP both Sedan and Coupe
if the 03-04 G35 5AT sedan is 260hp stock and runs same times as a tl-s, I am confident I could take one pretty easily stock, with an intake I think it will be close, but I think I will win. I will challenge this asshole next time I see him. oh I forgot about his 19's for second there after reading all your posts, now again I feel more confident. I will post results when I take him on.

Ahh thanks bro. Appreciate the knowledge.

03-04 G35 sedan were underrated with 260 and in reality show 270-272 hp (crank). It was a marketing niche to sell more coupes. Heck, my '04 G35 dynoed bone stock214whp/214wtq on 65 degrees, so even considering 20% drivetrain loss on 5AT it's 269HP but typically auto showed 21-22% so it's over 270HP.
Higher flow exhaust and minor ECU tuning is the only difference between 03-04 sedan and coupe so not much difference.

exhaust is not on yet, I just had it delivered today. The spare is already removed, no extra weight in car. I also will be adding some Lucas Octane Booster with my fill up later today (this shit really does help some) and when I see him I will immediately shake my head at his car and ask him to run. 25psi in front tires? why?

Lower PSi in front tires means better intial traction!

I'm 95% sure your exhaust will reduce your low-end torque. I had an Accord V6 before and any exhaust addition (except supercharger) resulted in loss of low-end power. If I were you, I'd make a before/after dyno on Dynojet machine (SAE correction) to see your actual gain or a loss of power.
Here is a Dynojet facility near you:
N.E. Auto Design
Model 224x
4 Delta Drive, Suite 4
Westbrook 04092
Tel: 207-854-2354
And as far a front tire psi blktl1 nailed it. Less front pressure going to result in better traction from the line. 25psi is good number anything less it's impractical unless you have a high HP car
. Good luck!
thatnks for the heads up on the dyno shop, westbrook is only 45mins from my house. I use to work up there. I know an exhaust will lower low-end torque a little bit, but it should also increase high-end torque some too. I want to dyno my car, but I don't think i'll be able to do a before and after.

i got both frds who owns a G35 sedan and 350Z, obviously i am slower than a 350Z as i ran with him b4, but the sedan is not quick at all, i can take the lead in higher end
as far as i concern, sedan is not a big problem
well I had a little run with a different G35 AT sedan(not sure year probably 03-04) today on the highway. Going 50 we both split into clear lanes(4 lane highway). I knew he was going to punch it and we both did at the same time. My car immediately downshifted(d4) into 3rd and we were off, his car was stock it seems, I really couldn't hear his car much over my intake and his exhaust was definitely stock. I started pulling on him right away and held a 1-1.5 car lead to 100 and I slowed down. I felt like I was still pulling on him a little. needless to say I was happy as hell and I think he was somehat ashamed because he slowed down a lot after and didn't try to come near me. Maybe because I have a 99 TL-P that looks stock for the most part except for my tint and exhaust tips(exhaust not on yet, but very soon).

That's what I'm talkin about.
I saw the kid tonight. I was walking back to my car after going into the store and he was parked a few spots over. He looks at me and I say nice rims, got any mods on that thing. I knew he had an intake. He said yeah a few, he didn't eloborate anymore than that. I said you wanna run. he kind of smirks and says sure. I say lets go at the two lanes that merge to one up ahead. This is the perfect spot to run a quick 0-70 race. it is about 1/8 of mile and goes from 2 lanes to 1 so from a stop whoever gets ahead and gets to the spot that changes to one lane and can pull ahead of the other can be declared the clear winner. I was pumped and ready to show this kid his car wasn't the shit. It is a nice car BTW, but I'd rather rock my TL. We get to the light and stop. really not much traffic around(7:00pm on a wednesday night). When light turns green we both take off instantly. he gets a small lead at first, but when I hit 4k in first I started to pull like crazy(pushing me back in my seat) and pass him strongly. When I got into 3rd and got up to about 70-75 I was a good 1.5 CL ahead and had plenty of room to pull in front of him when it turned into 1 lane. Both of us slowed down(only a 40 zone) immediately after. He pulled beside me in the left hand turn lane and rolled his window down and said WTF do you have a blower or NOS(stupid kid says NOS not nitrous). I go nope all motor, just bolt-on's. I asked him what he had and he said some brand SRI I have never heard of and that was it. he then goes and says I think somethings wrong with my car. I wanted to say yeah it's not that fast, but I said those 19's are weighing you down too much. we both drive off and I my cheeks were hurting because of the huge grin I had plastered across my face. I didn't think I could pull on him that much, especially in 1st. I tell you guys that when I am over 3500rpm in 1st in my car I feel a huge boost and it continues until I hit 4th then I can't pull as hard. I love my friggin' 7yrs old car!
