maybe im just paranoid but.....

anyone else feel that their center console below the cup holder gets hot? I know they get hot but i feel like mine is hot where it gets uncomfortable if you touch it for a while. Is this normal since the transmission is close?

Well if you are talking about the Silver trim pieces that run along the side near the console... If im not mistaken that is the passageway for the vents in the rear. Mine get hot in the winter and Cold in the summer.

it's right underneath the silver trim pieces. between the seat and the center. I stuck my hand in there and it was pretty warm(almost hot). I wasn't sure if its because of the rear vents or the transmission getting really hot.

This. I was also a little weary as to why my cup holders were warming/cooling. The vents run right by the cup holders, which is why you experience the warming/cooling action.

The transmission is nowhere near the center console. The TL isnt rear wheel drive ya know ;-) lol The transmission is mounted on the drivers side of the engine block under the hood.
And to help with your question no my center console does not get uncomfortably warm in my 07 TL-S. The rear air vent ducts might warm it up a bit when you have the heat on as they run right next to the cup holders. I know when I have my A/C on my center console gets cold.

if same as gen2 there is a vent on the rear of center console- that must be OPEN at all times or air gets blown there and has no escape--makes plastic above get warm or cold

1 reason you want it open is so CDs dont go thru temp stresses in the console
(assuming same as my gen2)

The air leaks you can feel are probably where the plastic duct pieces connect in line

Open that rear console vent and all will be well- if you have passenger vents in other places open them too

I have a 6MT, Id figure the gearbox is right there so the transmissin is close by.

Nope it doesnt matter if you have the 5at or 6mt the car is front wheel drive your tranny is under the hood. Your shifter is attached to linkages. Havent you see that yellow handled dipstick before? It goes right into your tranny.
Now on a rear wheel drive car yes you are correct the tranny itself is usually mounted directly under the center console area.

Its because the vents run along side of the center console. Its normal. If you are paranoid run your head by your feet and it will not bring it to the back, hence will not heat those pieces up.
