Just thought this tread from the maxima.org forum is entertaining talking about the New Maxima's Vs our 3g TL's... First off is starts of what are the fastest front wheel drives car out in the market then they go at it between the TL and Maxima..

i have a 6th gen maxima and ive raced a 3rd gen TL several times and its always a drivers race. whoever launches the best wins. like in this thread, ive always though those 2 cars to be the closest to each other in performance bone stock.

Ive done several races between the 3.5 04-06 max vs. the TL and off the start, the maxima jumps out, but then the tl catches up once V-tec kicks in and then the TL wins by like a car length or so

I haven't read that thread yet, but I just got an '06 TL after having an '04 Maxima for 3 years and I can tell you the Maxima had more usable power for day-to-day driving.

True, the TL runs hard when you get on the VTEC pipe, but in more normal driving - like when traffic finally opens up after slogging along at 30, or you need to accelerate from any lower speed - the TL has a huge flat spot until the revs come up and the Maxima just hauls ass without thinking about it.

And what's going on with that buzzing/vibrating at idle in the TL? Sounds like a Pontiac Grand Am or something!

Same deal when comparing the 5.5G Maxima and TL-S.

Here's all I know. I came from an i35 sport and I thought that the maxima forum was the most nazi-fied forum around.

I was clearly wrong and now find that acurazine, at least this section, has the biggest bitches for moderators.

Some of you should grow some skin.

I had an '02 Maxima 6-spd and now a '05 TL 6-spd. My overall driving habits and city/hwy mix are almost exactly the same as they used to be. I get almost identical mileage with both cars...around 21.5-23mpg (mostly city driving). I would say if there is any difference, the TL gets maybe .5 mpg better in mileage.

Now granted, the 04-07 Maximas are bigger and heavier with marginally more HP. You would be close though.

I came from an 02 i35 sport. Once the TL's break in period passed the mileage was nearly identical.

I know what you mean. I went from a car that made almost 700lbs of torque at 4K to the TL and it felt like the engine died until it hit 5K or so. But I drive so easy all the time it's not that big of a deal.

ya you could do that. using tip and holding longer rev's really kills your MPG. but just "normal" cruising should pull you 23-24.

Nice video, it shows what we know, a Maxima can outlaunch a TL.

Not sure if you noticed but as that video was ending the TL had already stopped the pull and "looked" like it was going to start inching up.

Yeah, ditto on that. I routinely got anywhere from 21.5 - 23 around town in my '04 Maxima, and got 30 on the highway many times. the two cars should get about the same mileage.

But note that the '07 Maxima comes only one way ... CVT transmission. It's rated 1mpg higher than the former 5spd AT, but no one will know until people start reporting in their actual mileage.

Totally agree. I have experienced this over and over again. Nissan engines will blow away Honda engines for about the first 6 seconds or so...but then after those few seconds the Honda engine will blow by the Nissan.

I just saw the 2007 Maxima online, damn the 07 TL better blow it away or be at par with it.
what caught my attention was mostly the tech stuff such as keyless start, looks the same as the RL. i hope the 07 TL has push button start

Maxima's (and many Nissan's) have way too much plastic and a certain level of "cheapness" to them. Like if you slam the door too hard, the door panel will pop off.

With the Maxima its all about that VQ engine. If Nissan can make the interior as nice a place as an Acura or Honda and offer just as good reliabilty

Hey guys, our TL looks MUCH better than the maxima. Who cares if they can launch quicker...they can always go quicker, get stop by a cop and we will get to our destination faster

Another thought...can we get a VTEC controller and set for VTEC to kick in at 2500 RPM or something like that??

in pt2 and pt3 it "looks" like the TL won. And in pt2 she beats him on the launch.

I'm a salesman at a Nissan dealership and I just bought my TL last week. Of course I catch hell from my managers about why I didn't buy a 6spd max with navi. The TL is much more nicer of a car. The maxima does seem faster than my TL, however in every other aspect the TL is better. We just got the 07 Maxima in about a month ago and it has really improved from 04-06. They took out that tacky 7inch screen in it, revamped the dash and the front bumper. Interior is nicer and built with better quality. If you're comparing TL vs Max to buy them, I'd buy a TL....If you have a TL and are considering a Maxima...definitley get the 07. Any other questions or anything, just shoot me a private message. I'll help you out with pricing too if you're going to buy one haha

Here's the Road and Track test drive of both vehicles. 04 model for comparison. The TL wins. I'm not sure what the 5.5 gen Maxima is but as far as 04 goes TL wins

uh...your car is going to run retarded if you set the vtec at 2500.... The Vtec controller is meant to lean out your air/fuel ratio to squeeze the most power of out of yuor current setup by getting tuned correctly. VTEC at 2500 is NOT tuned correctly.

As for the whole Maxima vs. TL debate..there's no point. It's all a driver's race and what model you're driving (6speed/auto/now cvt in the new max). Like everyone else that's actually driven both....maxima has more low end torque and the TL pulls more on the top end.... typical honda/acura engine.

When I first picked up my 5.5G 4AT, I could not post any time quicker than 15-flat. After about 3k, I posted in the 14.7-14.8 range VERY consistently.

Those You Tube videos above pretty much confirmed how I figured the 5.5G Maxima would perform against the 3G TL. (It also sounded like the Maxima needed to drop a few psi in the front tires.)
