what does your state law say about the location of a license plate? if you do anything that goes beyond what the law covers then you run the risk of getting stopped...especially if you are younger

I wouldn't do it, you're leaving yourself open for needless stops and fines

If you're going to take it off take it off and put it in your trunk. Maybe the first time you get pulled over it might work, just say you had to take off and the screw stripped need to get another one, or some BS like that. But if you keep getting pulled over might as well put it back on.

I don't want to put up with the BS here in Virginia. I painted my plate holder to match the color of my car.

Depends on the cops in your area. I bought a 350z 2 years ago and didnt have a mount for the front plate so I stuck it between my windshield and dash. I was on 95 for no more than 5 minutes and got pulled over by an undercover cop in an SS Camaro for having my front plate in my windshield. My friend who lives on the other side of town has been driving without front tags for over 5 years and hasn't been pulled over once for it.

I have been pulled over many times for not having the front plate on the bumper. It is a no point violation so if the look with out it is worth the $50, then don't rock it.

Front Tag

I've had two encounters with Maryland police regarding license plates/tags.

Once my wife was stopped by a Baltimore County Police officer while driving my Integra with no front plate. I had removed the plate for appearance reasons. The officer was nice enough; he didn't make it a big deal. She got a warning only. She insisted the I reattach the plate. I did.

Another time, I was stopped by a Maryland Transportation Authority officer. They patrol the highways near the Baltimore tunnels. He gave me a ticket (about $60) for having a license plate COVER. It was a clear cover, not tinted, no anti-radar treatment, and not dirty. I later discovered that Maryland law prohibits any kind of plate cover. I didn't argue with the officer, but I was irritated that he did not give me a warning nor even the opportunity to remove the cover at the scene. I later went to court. The judge gave me probation before judgement and no court costs. So it didn't cost me anything, but a few hours of my time.

What'd u tell the judge about the plate cover? I recently got a ticket for this same thing too (VA State Trooper).

Yeah I got stopped broad daylight in Silver Spring. They were having a hay-day. My registration was actually expired and they bitched about it not being displayed in the window and then they bitched about the tag being in the window.

Rediculous.

Believe it or not even DC has a no cover law for tag plates. I had to remove a clear cover with a box cutter during inspection once and got pull over in Rock Creek Park for have a lightly smoked cover on the rear plate...the cop said at night it gives the appearance of the plate stolen so off it went.

I wouldn't mess with these racist cops in maryland, especially here in southern maryland. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I did find this photoblocker spray, anyone ever use this stuff?

Mine has been off for a couple months now. Havent been bothered once. I wouldnt display it in the window though. That's sortof telling them you're trying to circumvent having the plate on front.

I was pulled over 2 times within 3 months by State Troppers. First time I was stopped on I-95 at 6am & given a warning. Second time on I-83. I thru the plate on my dash by the window before the cop pulled over. He didn't care that I had the tag in my car..gave me $60 fine anyways. So even though it looks much better without it, it's too much of a hassle.

I have a buddy that got a DUI for not having a front license plate. Now, I don't condone drinking and driving, but why give the cops another excuse to pull you over and poke around?
