Just an FYI, you are definitely asking for opinions in a biased location. With a majority of the folks on a car forum being car enthusiasts, you're likely to find responses geared accordingly. It's like going to a computer moding forum and asking if you should build or buy.

I am actually wrestling with the same question myself, OP, so I know your dilemma! Long story short: many moons ago my car was a manual, then my next primary car (the car I am driving now actually; see below) was an auto but the secondary car was a manual, so luckily I had the chance to go back and forth from time to time. But unfortunately, all 3 of the manual cars I had experience with in my life (the first one was my Mom's Chevy Cavalier) were bottom of the line vehicles and didn't offer a whole lot performance-wise, and they weren't as smooth as the higher-end cars; it was no wonder I got sick of driving them after a while (but truth be told, driving the same car in auto was like night and day).

I have a pretty nasty sports injury to my left knee so driving a cheaper manual car in traffic for long periods of time got old (and very painful) after a while, so years later I decided to make my primary car an auto. It was definitely nice for quite a bit. But...

...FF to now and with driving an auto for so long, I am quite bored with it I must admit. Not only that, but I ALWAYS find myself getting "upset" with the car/computer for shifting at times I never would, or not shifting when I need it to. Driving an auto still does take a little bit of skill (if you are into driving of course and care to learn the machine's habits) but the disconnect between me and the machine is far too great I think.

So...I am currently car shopping and leaning towards a manual tranny again for this time around. Yes I am in traffic A LOT, yes I do 95% city driving, but...I've found driving an auto in traffic can be just as annoying as a stick, if not more so; the amount of braking I need to do in an auto all of the time, UGH! I haven't completely ruled out an auto again, but I am definitely leaving towards a manual.

Oh and for the record, I am very excited about the newer technologies and them becoming more mainstream, and I am hoping Acura one day offers something as slick as the DSG tranny. IMO that is a GREAT compromise and you really do get the best of both worlds!

Since you chose to post in the thread as opposed to keeping it to PM, I'll return the favor.

We never treat new members by making snide comments like the one you made (unless they are being a douche). You've been a member here for a while and you know to put text in red to indicate a joke/sarcasm.

I suggest you re-read the rules for posting in 3G if you haven't read them already.
